=========================================

So while it looks on the face of it like it's effective, having adequate anti-tank and lots of flamers for anti-horde work...this list has a few issues.

The DP is difficult to hide, even behind a LR. Is the LR going to move? Is it loaded with PM? Is there any elevated terrain where you are?

The PM units can really hurt 3 enemy units with flamer and bolter/BP fire. Then they will likely be stuck in CC. PM make excellent tarpits, but don't generally win combats quickly. So those units you hit with the flamers might not pose a threat, but in large number count armies (both in models and total overall FOC units) isn't it possible you'll see yourself stuck in combat, unable to fire again, and swamped in CC? Sure, you'll probably win eventually...if they don't have nasty CC units to hit you with.

The LR will never ever be a good tank until you can move and fire ALL of it's weapons AND transport a squad into the heart of the enemy.

Would that make it uber? Sure. Would it still die to 5+ penetrating hits, 4+ from AP1 weapons? Would it still be useless on glance 6 since only techmarines can repair them (and with the uselessness of techmarines...are you really going to field a 100 point unit just to repair a LR? Orks get that for 5 points. FIVE.) as immobilized LR are often quite useless as gun platforms.

I'd rather have oblits for anti-tank duty. Yes, they don't have the invulnerability to weapons the LR does...but they don't suffer it's weaknesses nor it's cross purpose platform the LR has.

3 oblits will likely kill or cripple your LR before you get all of them. That isn't a good thing.

Alot of players will want to play LR, but for Chaos...heavy is your anti-tank. You can't bring 3 LR and 3 cult troops and have a decent list. There are way too many lists out there that can deal with you in CC, and/or cripple your tanks then attrition your PM away.

Overall this is an ok list, but against alot of armies you'll just be spinning your wheels.

Um, I'm confused, who is "you" in your commentary? It seems like you've posted a list and then shot your own list down.

I wholeheartedly agree that this list won't work well. I just don't see why you've posted it. Is there anyone out there who thinks flamers in plague marine squads is a good idea?

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Someone who PM'ed me and asked.

His list was above the ==== line.

To answer your question, yes there is someone who thinks flamers is good for PM.

I can give lots of advice privately, and do so when requested--but I prefer to put it out there for all to see.

I don't have the kings claim on viewpoints, last time I checked...

For building a better army, I'd refer here:

I know it isn't what you want, but Chaos has limits to what it can do because the Codex is written so poorly.

If you want to run a PM army and not use the analysis, for 5th edition you can give this a try.

Between the different units you can run forward and stop all vehicle armies cold.

Oh and this is an army that can zap 4 MC dead a turn, jfrazell. Just fyi.

Of course 36 meltaguns will probably piss people off...

Id actually run them with plasmas instead for the double tap but other then that its pretty cool.

Well, double tap is fine but then no charging...and if you fire all your bolters, especially against small units, you'll just end up frying the same guy twice.

I'd rather just fire the pistols and meltas, and charge. Both points are valid I think, depending what you are firing against.
