I have the DA and current SM codexs, seeing as my guys are painted as crimson fists I would be using them as a DA successor chapter (only going to be playing friendly games) untill the new SM codex later this year. I know I can use the old sm book till that one comes out but I like the way the DA one is built, i like the size restrictions and the way its cut down on wargear and I really really don't want to build an army that will not work in 5th ed (6 man las plas BS)

I will be playing mostly against horde armies (IG, orcs, nids and one CSM) There very few large targets in my group at the moment so no real need for solid anti tank/MC stuff.
I really like the idea of dropping a dread and or a tac squad right into a tau/IG gun line and unloading point blank but i have never used drop pods before, actually haven't played 40k for about 5 years or more.

Are drop pods worth it in this sort of army or is splitting my firepower just a bad idea. I like the idea of a dread but walking it across the board seems like a bad idea, people like to pop them and they dont look that hard.
I've got access to terminators, bikes, a standard land raider and a land speeder typhoon

I've never used or seen a tech marine used before but having him seems to fit Cfists fluff (I know lots of tac squads doesnt fit the fluff so well but I like troops!) and would be fun for the volume of heavy bolter shots at less than devastator prices. I know the group doesn't have any spare wounds but I would probably hide them or make a rhino (or both) into razors and leave the heavy wep halves of the tac squads with the tech to make a mini fire base.

I suppose though if I was going to drop some stuff it would be the dread (i just like the idea of him falling out of the sky guns blazing) the tech marine and the assault squad. Maybe getting a devastator squad of some sort or bringing in the terminators (not sure about these guys, especially with one +ac costing 70 points)

I like it a lot. You have quite a bit of movement (assault marines, drop pods, rhino) and some nice shooting.

Nice high model count is good as well, seems good!

I just looked at the codex again, for 150 points i get a 5 man dev squad with 4 heavy bolters and leaves me with 25 points spare. Anyone see how I could trim 50 more points to get a 5 man upgrade to the dev squad? Or I could take 4 MLs in the dev squad and change the heavy weps in the tac squads. Heavy bolters, plasma cannons or maybe a lascannon in one.

What will you use for anti tank against AV14 or if the nid player runs 2+ saves?

no one in my group has any av14 (the landraider i dont really want to field is the only one) against the tyranid 2+ saves i was hoping to just hit him with powerfists and kill all the little stuff around the big things from range.

WEll first of all the rhinos are only 35 pts so you already have the extra points neccessary to get your 5 man ungrade. Though I would suggest heavy bolters in the line squads (or plasma cannons) and then put 4 las cannons in yoy dev squad.
