Is an all Grey Knights list viable in 5th? Ive only played Nids and looking towards a second army, the Grey Knights look very good to me. My play style is more towards the aggresive style, of the Daemonhunter Codex, I really like the GK Termies, the Assassions, and the Inq with henchmen, just looking for advice or suggestions from the veterans here. At our local store we do not play allied list, only stand alone codex's, so no mixed IG/Sister's/marines with my GK's.

I had debated between GK's and CSM's and leaned towards GK's as the road less taken, although if GK's are just not that viable Ill move to CSM's.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Depending on how you are planning to run your army, they might be semi competative. But unless something changes drastically in the FAQ they wont be "top-tier". Dual-lash is probably alot better on paper basis imo.

You'll be severely outgunned and outnumbered in every game you play.

If you can maximize the number of models you kill with your midrange shooting while minimizing incoming fire with LOS trickery and The Shrouding, you have a chance at mopping up in CC when your opponent get close enough to effectively pound you.

Just keep in mind that your anti-tank will only be on tanks, and that your infantry should never charge the enemy, and a GK army will stand a somewhat decent chance.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

I've never seen a Gray Knights army do anything other than suck and die. I also don't see anything in the 5th edition rules that makes it look like this is going to change. The problem that gray knights have is that they simply have too few models due to their price. This combined with a lack of serious punch in most of their army just makes for a generaly weak list.

What would you suggest to make a viable Gray Knights army for 5th edition? Specificaly, what general plan would you go for? What units (or unit combinations) do you think would work well? What general strengths of the army would you try to exploit and what weaknesses do you want to cover?

Land Raider x3 with 3 GK Terminator units. Not unstoppable, but if it gets to you intact...you are going to have serious issues.

Or a mixed bag, a inquisitor style force.

Shooting or assaulting.

Don't do both if you can help it.

Always bring guard. You need lascannons, and GK don't get them except on Dreads. Which are fine for smaller games (1500 points or less) but suck it up in larger games. Bring along Psycannons whenever possible.

With the removal of furious charge from most units in the game, you don't have to have a general fear of getting assaulted by every dick, joe, and harry out there and losing models to sheer number of attacks and not doing anything in return.

Certain CC units are still dangerous, but you can shoot them to pieces in many cases.

If you take dreads with Shrouding and grey knights your force will be basically invisible

The tripple land raider force with terminators inside backed up by las cannon guardsmen does sound like a force to be feared. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Thanks.
