Hey, managed to get a lengthy look through the Dark Elves army book at Games Day, some things I noticed (sorry if any of this has already been mentioned ^^):
-Entire (I think) army has Eternal Hatred, which allows them to re-roll misses against anyone in the *first* round of combat.
-Cold Ones are still S4, 1 attack
-Cold One Chariots have LD9
-Dark Elf Spearmen were either 5 or 6 points each, and can buy upgrades (they looked like a reaaaally good bang-for-your-buck kinda unit)
-There are several "unit champion upgrades" that don't take up hero or lord slots, rather replace the unit champion of the squad with named dudes (special characters I guess you could say) that have nicer stats ^^
-The Repeater Crossbow is S3, multi-shot, Armor Piercing
-the Dark Elves 'Shadow Stalker' guys or w/e they are called (the DE variant of Waywatchers) have BS5
-the War Hydra (jebus rice that model looks soooo beautiful in person) has S5, 7 attacks, 4+ scaly skin, Regeneration, causes Terror, some other special rules, and costs 175 points.
-The Witch King dude costs 600 points, has S5 T4, 5 attacks I think (either 5 or 4), level 4 wizard, adds +1 power/dispel dice to the pool, has a sword that *doesn't* ignore armor saves but if it hits a guy (pretty sure it's *hit*, not wound) you can either pop a magic item or something like pop a spell they know (could have been remove a power dice they generate), and has a bitchin shield that gave him wonderful protection versus non-magical weapons, was something like lets re-roll armor saves or a ward save, whatever it was, worked really well in conjunction with his sword.
-Black Guard are cheaper
-Cold Ones look soooooooo beautiful in person
-the dude with the squid face also looks amazing
-Corsairs are incredibly detailed kits
-Every Dark Elf caster knows a spell with a casting value of 4+ that works like this: Generate +[D3 +1] spell dice for yourself, only you can use them, and you can't use them to dispel remains-in-play spells. For each one that you don't use at end of magic phase ( lol) you take either a wound or a hit (forget the exact penalty, as it's trivial in nature )
-Every Dark Elf caster has a special rule that removes the max power dice they can use per spell they cast
-There's a 300 point Assassin Hero with WS10, BS10, I10 that can kick some serious butt
Anyway, that's all I can recall right now, and yeah, Games Day was very awesome and enjoyable ^^

5 or 6 pts? That sounds too unbelievable to be true. Even if shields are only +1 pt, that's 6 or 7 pts for M5, WS4, and Ld8. And Light Armor, a shield, and spear for good measure.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |

With Spearmen at that cost, I am almost tempted to field an Elven horde army.

I did not memorize their statline, so they may have made their stats a bit worse than as you describe them (like WS3 for example) to suffice for the point drop. Haha don't quote me on this, as GW has a habit of printing broken units lately (see Blood Knights, and the new Hydra I described ^^)

Well it'd explain the army book cover... hehe
The only other thing I noted was ... that better be Shadowblade with the Deathsword for 300pts.

175 points, M6, 7 WS4 S5 attaks, 4+ save, 4+ regen, terror, stubborn, 2 handlers (with current handler rules), breath weapon with strength equal to remaining wounds (5 to begin). I do like the model, particularly if FW or somebody makes variant heads as rumored :S

Is that Lokhir Squidface? Cool stuff in there.
So yeah, another powerful army but thankfully a notch down from demons & vamps. Guess I could go do my 2x hydra list I've wanted to run ...

Hydra at 175 points is way too cheap. It's not that it will be a massive balance problem, but it will get rather boring quick when every single Dark Elf army is a monster army with two of these and possibly a Manticore or a Dragon. Warhammer has too many monsters to begin with. I was hoping for a more infantry based army, but GW dropped the ball. Now what we'll get is the same old minimum infantry (possibly zero since DR are core) backed up by lines of monsters, flyers and fast cav.

175 does seem like a steal to me too, with stubborn in there on top of it all.
Also, there's apparently 2 stubborn units in the army now (according to the blurg next to the painted army that was on display). Anybody catch which the other unit is?

The whole army book is already posted on the Warhamer Forum, and the link to it is right here in BigChris' thread.

I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or something, but it's Black Guard of course like always. They're also ITP now.

Yeah, realized that after posting. Stupid of me.

So ... maybe I'll have to fight some Dark Elves now that they're getting a new book. Had no idea what BG did, but stupid of me x2

It's a bummer that the underpriced the Hydra, but given the overall boosts to the army, I still expect to see some armies with actual infantry around me. And given how sweet most of the new models are, it's going to be pretty cool.
