I heard that there is a followup story to Storm of Iron in this omnibus, is this true?

I wouldnt call it followup, but it does involve the not-so-pureblooded honsu ( i think thats how his name was spelt), as well as his fortress and such.

i must say, i loved storm of iron portraying the iron warriors as they should be. vicious and calculating... but in the third ultramarine novel... i dunno.

i wasnt impressed.

Is it a full-length novel, or just a short story?

The standalone version of the ultramarine Book was "death sky, black sun" and yes its a full novel.
The omnibus is a compilation of three ultramarine books.Only one has IW in it as opponents of the
UM, trying to make new marines but only receiving mutants.I recommend it if you like "blue" marines,
otherwise the IW part is to small.

I wouldn't totally downplay the role Honsu plays in the novel that much. The premise of the whole setting of the book is what happens to Honsu after Storm of Iron. If you were a fan of Storm of Iron, it has a lot of references you'll appreciate. It also has a lot of that Iron Warriors rivalry that was so present in Storm of Iron.

Thats all nice and such mate, here comes the but, in Storm of Iron the Iron Warriors were displayed to be cold-hearted killing machines. no such luck in this book were they look more like a sore bunch of uncoordinated nerds.

I love Storm of Iron, a great book that I have read several times. But this whole "smurfs take it all" attitude in death sky black sun (thx 1hadhq, couldnt think of it), or any other UM book for that reason just bores me to death. thats why i loved storm of iron. the bad guys win, who wouldve thought.

which of course made me look forward to another iron warriors novel where thay go around and really set fire to the galaxy with new and improved marines or whatever ... thwarted by the smurfs yet again.

oh and, there was a massive amount of iw rivalry in storm of iron as well. whats your point?

My point is there are similarities between Storm of Iron and The 3rd Ultramarine book. I wouldn't say that it's a sequel to Storm of Iron, but in my opinion, if you're a big storm of iron or iron warriors fan there's enough of that content in the 3rd book to satisfy. The Iron Warriors are doing some pretty wicked stuff in UM book and the huge siege is almost as good as the one from Storm of Iron.
