In 5th, when blasts only affects the floor it hits, pretty much like the template looks instead of hitting everything under it regardless of what floor, what happens with scatters now?
If you blast something on the top of a building and it scatters away, will the template land at ground level or be an airburst? What if it scatters into another building?
Or if it hits open ground and scatters into a building(esp where there is no open walls on the 1st floor).

It's on the same level when you initially placed it.

So if it scatters into midair, it does nothing.

You mean in 4th edition?

If you're using the cities of death rules (recommended if you're using ruins) then it's pretty much the same as v5, you pick a level and if it scatters it can only hit models on that level.

If you're not using the cities of death rules in 4th edition then there are no "levels" in the rules. Anything under the blast (period) is hit.

Yeah, never used cites of death in 4th.. unless specifically playing city scenarios. So anything under the template regardless of floor used to be hit for us.

Thanks for the answers, cleared up some toughts here.

So targeting anything in a building with ordnance is now an incredibly risky proposition, as most scatters [assuming a scatter, 2/3 chance, and 3-4 inches, average roll of 7 with BS 3 or 4] will take you clear off your intended target, and if you target anything other than the ground floor you'll hit nothing?

I dunno, I figure if you target up and miss it just lands and hits the ground. But we'll see if the rules back that up.

They don't. They're exactly like CoD in this regard. If you target an upper floor and end up missing all the models on that level, you miss even if the marker ends up over models on the ground level.
