Ok, so I was at my flgs yesterday and friend of mine and I were playing an anihilation game. We then rolled for deployment and it was a Dawn of war setup. This says that we divide the table in half and deploy our forces and then "During turn 1 the nightfight special rules are used." (the wording is pretty close to that.) Well, I assumed this meant that fur turn 1 only, we would use the nightfight rules. However, the store manager came by and said we were wrong, and that the mission called for nightfight the entire game. My freind and I nodded but then re-read both the Dawn of war rules, and the nightfight rules several times and found no such evidence to support the idea that nightfight would be played for more than turn one. We were about to start deploying when the store manager came over and said we were dead wrong and that He had even gotten an e-mail from GW saying that for dawn of war deployment, the nightfight rules would be in effect the entire game. We then played the game using nightfight rules the entire game.

Does anyone know the truth about this? How is Dawn of war deployemnt actually played? Did any other flgs get a magical e-mail from GW saying that they made a mistake and that Nightfight is actually suppose to be in effect the whole game? any input you guys have would be much appreciated.

Considering the "Dawn" in the mission title and you finding no evidence in the rulebook to contradict the "During turn 1 the nightfight special rules are used." I'd say you were probably right. Of course, not having seen the 5th ed book I could be completely wrong.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

Sounds like a case of somone not wanting to admit they were wrong. I think its been rather obvious since 3rd edition that having a whole game go with night fight rules in effect is a really bad idea.

Really? I ran Night Fight as the official mission last week and most everyone loved it, since people rarely ever play it.

That store manager got some bad information from someone.

The mission is even called "dawn" assault.

That's called a 'one off'.

Run it for 1/3 of your games.

See how people hate it.

Well that's true for anything. If 1/3 of all my games were Cleanse or Recon or any other mission I'd start to hate it.

It is; confirmed by prerelease 5th ed. rulebook.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
