Question: Does the Zoanthrope (or Hive Tyrant) need to take and pass both a regular shooting and psychic test in order to use the high powered Warp Blast? The regular blast does not need the psychic test, but the rules are vague about whether the creature takes the psychic test in addition to or instead of the regular roll. The old codex made it seem like it was instead of. Plus, it seems like it makes the high powered blast really difficult to use, considering its just a short range rail gun.

The power doesn't say it auto-hits, like the Ork shooting powers... so yes, you must make a Psychic test, then roll to hit.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I agree. A successful Psychic test + roll 'to hit' are both needed.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

Yep, you hit it on the head--it's a short ranged anti-tank device.

Just like BoC on the TS champs.

Pass the psychic, then you have to hit...
