Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

It looks like it is an Indy GT meaning that they will have 5 games over 2 days. It looks like they will also use GW's GT scoring.

But there is nothing to indicate that it has been certified by GW as a GT Circuit event.

from ordo from the organizer

Hi gang,

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Gabriel Vega, the organizer for ConQuest NW game convention. As the Director of Convention Development for Avalon Game Conventions, I get to create cool and exciting gaming conventions up and down the Western United States.

We were very happy when GW approached us about hosting an Indy GT for the NW community. After a meeting in San Francisco with Drew, Swan from the SF area, and my production manager Alexis Randall, we came to an agreement in principle, if you will, to run this event. Chris Ewick agreed to be the Tournament Coordinator for the GT.

Going forward, I'd like to note that the only official announcements regarding the show, and the only person officially empowered to speak for the show is me. I do appreciate Chris' help...but his word is not gospel. Look to the website (and we will update that as we get new information and/or to correct errors along the way) for the best information. If you still have questions, then please send them via email to conquestions@avalongamecon.com These come directly to us, and we can respond to these much more quickly, instead of trying to keep track of dozens of forums and yahoo groups. We'll do our best to keep up here...but best to contact us directly.

Some solid information...based on some of the questions I saw here earlier...

We like to have a good seven months to plan a show, and here we were in mid May at that point, with the traditional dates for ConQuest NW being in February. As it turned out, to make things work, we migrated from around Prez day weekend to MLK Jr. weekend (hence some of the confusion surrounding the dates).

ConQuest NW is a general gaming convention that is hosting the "ConQuest Seattle Indy GT" next year on the weekend of January 16-18 at the Doubletree Hotel Seattle Airport. The ink is so very dry on the contract with the hotel that the reservations people might not even know we exist yet. (In fact, I do not expect to receive our special group rates 'link' until sometime next week.)

As to this being a *real* Indy GT...Drew assured us at the meeting that we would in fact be on the 'circuit' for next year.

In the next week or two, we should have a schedule completed for the 'main events'. Paint clinics, seminars, demos, et al, will be filled in as we continue to develop the show. The rules set we will utilize will be published in the coming weeks as well.

To play in the ConQuest Seattle Indy GT 40K or Fantasy Battles event, one must purchase a "ConQuest Seattle Indy GT Weekend Badge" through the website. A "ConQuest NW" badge will allow you to enjoy the entire game convention, but does not include entry into the GT events, as is clearly explained on the registration page of the website. The GT badge also affords the holder to enjoy everything else the convention has to offer.

And I will be adding "Ordo Fanaticus forum" to the answer of the 'how did you hear about..." question at registration.

Speaking of registration, there is not need to report to anyone the armies you are running or to reserve a spot for the event. The only way to do so is by purchasing your ticket online, and then answering the question about which event and what army as you purchase. And yes...if you want to change your mind...just ask us, and we'll see what we can do. No promises though...if 40K is sold out, and you want to switch from Fantasy to 40K the answer may be 'no'. So, choose wisely.

Once again, allow me to apologize for any confusion, but I jumped on this board as soon as I heard about the discussions taking place here, and at the ready for your questions populating my inbox.

Take care, and look forward to seeing you there!

Anyone can have a *real* Indy GT....they just have to do it and get people to attend. Being on the 'circuit' doesn't make it any more *real* or official.

As for who Drew is, I know he isn't on the GW US Community Development team (Dave T., Chris G., John S.)

So no, its not an official GW circuit tournament until GW says its so.

Most of the great fantasy Indy GTs are not on the GW circuit.

The whole term "Indy GT" just seems like a contradiction-in-terms in the first place. I don't mean to misunderestimate the tournament organizer... but why don't you just call it the "ConQuest NW Tournament"?

Remember folks, this is OUR hobby. I'd even go so far as to say you've got more street cred if you do your own thing and let GW come to you.

Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart, he dreams himself your master.

I think Independent Grand Tournament is a good term. It’s a useful descriptor for two day, five+ game events above a certain size.

What I will note is that while I know that Drew is a regional GW guy up there (he used to be the regional manager for the Northeast, IIRC), he isn’t on the Community Development team. So we can’t be CERTAIN if it’s going to be on the circuit until and unless Dave Taylor confirms that.

QFT. There are a ton of awesome IndyGT's going on here in the US that are not on the circuit. Or would want to be as a matter of fact. We have 3 awesome IndyGT's here in Texas because GW has effectively pulled their GT's out of the south. Gone is the heyday of going to both Dallas and Atlanta. Atlanta, as a Metro Area got gutted. Dallas has only had one GW shop. But in Houston, they just opened another shop in Sugarland (and shut down MarQ-E), making 4 Hobby Centers in Houston. I've heard rumor of a Houston GT for years, but nothing ever developed. There was the NASA thing a few years ago, and some other ghay pseudo-tourney-thing at Relaint Park around that same time. But Bayou Battles in Houston is now in it's 5th year as a Warhammer IndyGT; just gotta push them to add a 40K section too.

I'm fairly certain the Drew mentioned is "Big Drew" who is the Northwest Regional Manager or metro manager or whatever GW calls it. For some reason I can't remember his last name but he's fairly well known (for a GW employee) in the Seattle area. News of this GT has been floating around up here for a while now. Whether or not it turns out to be true, the local GW staff are giving a strong impression that this is an "official" GT.

Seattle has a growing hobby community with 7 GW stores in the greater metro area, including a bunker. A few of those are way out in the stix but they still count IMO. I've heard there are plans to open several more stores in Washington in the next few years.

Now all we need is a Seattle Gamesday and I'd be a happy clam.

Swoop!
