A small town at the foothills of the beautiful Cascade Mountains

OK, so I just got two Carnifexes, and the two weapons I want (Barbed Strangler and Venom Cannon) are both on the right side. I searched the articles - no similar post, but I am sure a number of people have had to work around this. I saw Yak's Gunfex and that looks good, but not sure how much effort went into it (I am bad with greenstuff).

Any tips around conversion? Pictures would be great.

Edit: Is it even possible to have both weapons on the right - i.e. do they fit? I know it may look a little uneven, but is it even possible? Picture would again be great.

Thanks!

Nic

I made mine standing. (turn the body up side down..)

I then made it so the venomcanon was on the right, as was it's loader, bij cutting the arm below the ball and reattach in the right position. the barbed strangler is the opposite. It is quite easy with some wire (for pinning and attaching the new tubes) and greenstuff to fill gaps and make the tubes look lively..

I do not have any pics handy, but I might post some tomorrow..

My Gunfex has both on his right side. Using the VC left arm and right, as well as just the BS barrel. I'll take a picture tomorrow. You use green stuff the make it look like a seamless two-barrel weapon, and only one left arm as not to clutter the model, IMHO.

You could also consider mounting one weapon on his carapace, it is something I might attempt for my next fex.

I made mine righty and lefty. I don't have pics yet but I plan to add them to my blog (which I have neglected, the poor thing).

Basic steps
1) VC stays on right, so his feeder hand needs to be moved.

-Use a death spitter arm as the new arm and attached the hand/hose thing to it. This will take some greenstuff and a steady cut with an xato but isn't too hard really.

-Then use a candle to heat the hose such that it will bend underneath and into the port on the VC for the hose (alt. could use GS to create a new port on the other side if you want). This takes some getting used to, I used a bit of sprue to practice first so I could get a feel for where to put the plastic and how to get it to bend the way I want.

It is not fool proof, the second fex I made was not as easy as the first, came out ok but was still kinda crooked.

2) Move the barbed strangler to the left, since the inside looks about the same as the outside (even the fingers).
-Cut the shoulder off of the BS arm.
-Create a new one out of GS that faces the other way. Not too hard to get it to look decent. You can also use the deathspitter upper arm some GS in the elbow area but it is kinda weedy IMHO.

-Now the BS arm outside is facing inside and vice versa. It looks ok as is but to finish it off I add an elbow looking part to the new outside arm. Look at the same dealy on the other side of the arm. Just recreate that outta GS. It is not that hard to make look good, being an organic bony thing.

-The BS hose will need to be melted but not nearly as much. Just depends on how you want the feeder arm setup. It is kinda awkward in the arm other socket.

That is about it really. Hope that helps.

The Last Chancer Who Survived

here's how i did mine:

I used the lobster claw arms and cut off the claw to do the conversions for the other arms.. basically I just cut off the barbed strangler at the "wrist" part and glued it to the left lobster arm and added some greenstuff, then I had the sac and tube arm right under it and I stuck the tube in boiling water till I got it bent how I wanted it.. but looking back it would have been easier to just make the tube with greenstuff. And I did the same basic thing for the venom cannon too.. so in the end I was able to get a kind of dynamic looking pose with a gun in each arm

I built a pair of them with both weapons on the right side.

Venom Cannon in top shoulder join, Strangler in bottom. You will have to model the Strangler held low to make this work.

It may help to model him standing up a little higher, either through chopping the joints and adding green stuff, or via scenery on the base, or both. This gives him more room to lower the barrel of his Strangler.

A little cutting and green stuff is all you need. Just make sure before the green stuff is dry to put the arms in the position you want them. If they're off by a bit, you'll have to redo your work.

The venom cannon and longer tendril on the right side you can leave alone. The place where the tendril would normally go is on the opposite side of the gun, so you can use some green stuff to move that around. It didn't matter to me, so I didn't. On the left side you have to swap the shoulder around on the barbed strangler, just make sure to angle it correctly so the gun isn't tilted to one side or the other... or however you want it to be angled. The tendril with the bag of goo on it had to be modified where it hits the barbed strangler because it was a bit too long. I just cut it, put some green stuff around it (crude job, but it looks like a wad of goo is traveling through it) and angle it correctly.

Added more in the edit.
