So, jumping off from the 5E Death of the Gunline post, do folks think that 5E will mean the end of using Fearless Conscripts as a Tarpit? Or will they be useful as folks have described Remnant Squads being useful for drawing off assaults?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

They won't be a huge tarpit, and won't stay forever, but I think they still have their use.

Probably useful, but I think Rmenants will still be better at it.

Remnants=
-5 men limits LOS less than 20 Cons (minimum)
-cheaper than Cons by 50ish points
-more likely to get gutted so you can shine a light on the enemy next turn

The alternative is to bring a Cannoness with the Book of Thou Shalt Not Run, as (unmodifiable) leadership 10 conscripts aren't going away too often.

I'm unfamiliar with the Cannoness with the Book of Thou Shalt Not Run. What makes her ability that different from using Commissar Gaunt which gives them Fearless?

You get no additional wounds from loosing combat, just a pure nice unmodified 10 LD test.

She's a) cheaper; b) can be tooled for several effective roles; and c) doesn't have to be attached to the conscripts (just nearby). And as previously mentioned, she provides a "bubble" of unmodified leadership 10 - casualties are irrelevant.

Ah, okay - I was losing sight of the advantage of unmodified leadership 10 and was instead seeing it as a disadvantage - I get it now.
