Alright Dumb Question
They dont count any neg.'s to LD so could you lose combat by like 25 and still be LD 9
Stupid question JW.

That's what it looks like, unless they FAQ the Chem-Inhalers.

I don't think I'd call them good even if that is true.
I want my unit of 10 guardsmen to fall as soon as they get assaulted. With a LD 8 (I never use an officer above J.O. level) the unit will most likely stick around after they assault. I'd suspect that in 5th ed. most unit of 10 guards will fall in my assault phase letting the opponent charge a fresh unit on there turn. Also, units of 5 and 6 Guards counter charging will still die in the initial assault. Making it worthless for the small units you have to purchase it for.
Overall I think this doctrine is MORE usless in 5th.

Probably, but don't worry, as doctrines won't be around long in 5th...

It would be good except you don't want your Guard passing their Ld tests in combat and preventing you from firing at the enemy unit in your turn.

I think it can be used to your advantage, but you need to be crafty to make it work. I believe it's an always on power, that you can't turn off like say the Book of St. Lucius...and it always has to be on all the IG platoons it possibly can be...
So very crafty indeed. Against a large horde army like Orks, I think it will be a rude surprise when you stay. Dying on your own turn is more likely though, unless you game the system.

It'll get expensive buying this upgrade for an army. Then there's the fact that you don't want them staying in close combat anyway because assaulters can't consolidate into new units.
With Chem, they fight, lose and stay in the fight, making the unit they're fighting unshootable.
Without Chem, they fight, lose and run away and you shoot the unit in your turn.
My speed bump remnant squads can't wait to be throw away units.

Yeah, same kinda feeling with the rumored Salamadners/Tu'Shan and stubborn. I'd rather run to be able to shoot and flame the following turn then get stuck where I'm sure to be beat down.

If you could selectively run Chem, it'd be awesome.
Since you can't, bring a Canoness instead.
Tada! Instant Chem inhalers.
