Hello, I just started playing Eldar a little while ago, and decided it was time to stop collecting and painting and start making an army list. I decided to go with Alaitoc, considering how much I love rangers. My list (so far) is as follows:

Many small units. It may give you trouble with kill points in 5th. I would cut a unit or two of the aspects and use the points to add more models to the squads that remain. Then work towards adding back those squads for the higher point versions of the army.

i'd drop the spiders and hawks, and instead give the falcon a bright lance and beef up the pathfinders to 10 each. then use the remaining points to add more reapers or scorpions, ur choice.

I have to agree that you should have larger units for the scorpions especially. A larger unit will do more damage in assault and be more resilient to shooting. Drop like 5 guardians to add some more scorpions.
I feel you should have a bright lance platform for anti tank or a scatter laser platform for anti infantry. The Starcannon is not very good anymore. Its 2 AP3 shots aren't enough especially when your opponent probably will have a cover save making more shots better then AP.
You should take spirit stones on all vehicles so you can move and don't get stuned and blown up. So falcon should have spirit stones. You might want to go with a wave serpent as it can carry more troops and is cheaper.
I prefer to take a Tempest Launcher if I do take dark reapers because it is better for killing MEQs and with the new blast rules it might be pretty good.

Looks like many KPs and most too mixed purpose of the army, whats is your battleplan here? Its usually a good idea to have one type of army and beeing good at that, esp. with eldars.

Its not really an Alaitoc army, with 2 small Ranger squads.
The KP issue in the new ed should give rise to larger squads.
Shooty squads sitting in the backfield are in danger of being assaulted by Scouters or Infiltrators.
The Falcon is not so good in the new ed, either replace it by a WL or mount FDs in it.

in your defence, there really is no fluffy way to create and alaitoic army. maybe if you were to use lots of guardians and convert them out of woodelves. warwalkers, jet bikers, vypers, heavy weapon platforms with ranger looking crew. but then you have an ulthwe army. that looks like woodelves

First question I ask every eldar list maker...what are you planning on doing with your farseer? Where he is going to go really determines what he should have. With doom and guide, he's set up to be in your front lines somewhere (with the dire avengers possibly).

Good work beefing up this squad. I consider 8 the minimum number any hand to hand based squad should ever be.

Fire dragon exarchs are just a waste of points. They don't bring anything to the squad that it doesn't already have with the normal dragons. Save yourself the points and just take the exarch out. The only possible use the exarch could have is if you gave him the flamer so he could add some anti troop power to your anti tank unit (an idea that I acutely don’t' like much but enough other people swear by it that I figure it is worth mentioning).

Hawks are just a bad unit all the way round. I love the models, but they just don't have the ability to do much of anything on the field other than die. Their weapons are weak and don't really have the range to keep them out of trouble. Deep strike and intercept are just temptations to put these guys into positions where they are going to get killed. So all in all their abilities just don't balance out when compared to their point cost.
Falcon w/ Scatter Laser

I assume your fire dragons will be riding around in the falcon here. If not, they should be. Regardless, I think you'll find that spirit stones are more or less required on a flacon to keep it moving and keep your dragons on the road to getting where they need to be. Also, I find that the scatter laser is a poor complement to the puls laser. The puls laser is S8 and AP2 with 2 shots. This makes it decent at both killing heavy infantry (terminators or the like) and as a anti vehicle weapon (although with the change to glancing hits, I think it will be less useful in this role in 5th). The scatter laser is an anti light infantry weapon. I think you would be much better served by giving the falcon a star cannon so that it can be used as a heavy infantry killer. That or you could swap it out for a bright lance and go tank hunting, but the cargo of fire dragons already covers that role. Either way, I think the scatter laser is probably not the best weapon for the tank.

Fast and Crack Shot
You can't ever use fast shot and crack shot at the same time so having both is a waste. I ran some mathhammer as well as simulating 50ish shots with the tempest launcher against various troop formations and I found that crack shot is by far the better ability. Looking at it from a simplistic view, fast shot makes you go from 2 to 3 shots which gives you a 50% increase in damage output (roughly speaking). Crack shot allows you to re-roll wounds, which against things with T4 means you go from wounding half your targets to wounding 3/4 of them; that's a 50% increase in damage. So since the damage increase for both is the same, crack shot would be better just because it is less expensive; however, in addition to being less expensive, it allows you to ignore cover saves which is a HUGE bonus. So crack shot is, by far, the better power.

Kind of nitpicky, but worth mentioning. You can only ever fire 2 weapons. There is no way to destroy any of the dreadnaughts weapons so you will always have the option of picking any two of the 4 weapons you have to fire. Can you think of a situation where you would want to fire the shuriken catapult? I can't. Now what I can think of is a situation where you would want to fire 2 flamers, so you should probably drop the catapult for another flamer for when you get up close and personal.

Point about falcons is pretty valid, personally prefer to bump it up with a BL so you have 3 anti-tank shots. Or good MC killing capacity.
