Subject: 2,000 Point - Death Guard Daemon Bomb List

This is a revised Daemon Bomb list I've been working on for 5th Edition. Initially I had 4 units of 7 plague marines and 30 lesser daemon in squads of 10. I've changed it up a bit to have the plaguemarine squads larger as well as more mobile with the addition of rhinos. While I initially wanted this to be in contrast to my 2,000 point mech list I felt the rhinos were necessary to get my plaguemarines into a a forward position as quickly as possible to allow them to rain down lesser daemon reliably via icons.
I'm not too sure how the daemons split into units of 5 will do. On one hand, it increases the number of targets the enemy has to deal with but in Kill Point missions it will cost me. It also increases the number of potential objective takers to 8, which is alot more than I think people will expect from a Nurgle army.
Anyway, I plan on playtesting this list as soon as I get my copy of the new rules, so I'll see how it fairs and tweak it accordingly.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games |

Hmmm.
I like the concept.
I think the Raptors and Defilers should morph into oblits.
All the PM should have meltaguns.
Even with 2 defilers, a DP, and 3 rhinos...I think you'll end up getting shot out of your transports immediately.
Drop them, get a 2nd DP.
Yes it's a bit cookie but what can ya do, effective is effective.

Painlord Titan Princeps of Slaanesh

I suggest keeping the defilers. Much cooler, and plenty devastating against enemy troops.
However there is a definite lack of anti-tank. Your daemon prince can't be everywhere at once and T6 isn't invincible. I think the plaguemarines should just tote meltaguns.
While the tactics side of me thinks ONE defiler should become 2 oblits, I really love the idea of two of those metal behemoths running around, so the fluff side of me definitely says keep them.
Edit: oh, and what are the raptors really going to do? 5? with no power weapon or meltagun or anything at all? Why aren't they just more lesser daemons, at the very least, or a backup daemon prince? You can get one on foot with the mark of nurgle for 5 more points than those raptors and those points can easily come from the plasmagun reduction. With run, it's not like he'll really be THAT far behind your regular guys and he can be a nice reserve to help out in any assault he's needed, or if your squads get hung up on a dreadnought he can take care of it easily, freeing the flying prince to go elsewhere.
I just think there's better uses of 125 points than 5 raptors with no upgrades. You've got icons with the plaguemarines, don't really need another that's easily shot [and remember, in a 5-man squad he's the only guy with different equipment - he'll be making individual saves if I read the rules right and anyone gets 5 or more wounds on the unit].

For 2000 points there's an awful lot of armies going to shoot everything but the PM dead in turns 1 and 2.
Then what? Hope for FNP saves? It's not like your demons are uber close combat troops, after all.
I thought this was 1750 then realized it wasn't. lol

First off, I messed up on my maths and was 10 points over. I dropped the IoCG on the raptors for a quick fix.
My argument for the raptors is simple, they are the greater daemon delivery system. I don't expect them to last, just move forward enough to summon the greater daemon and that being the case, I didn't want to load out the squad with extra options.
However, if I dropped the raptors and rhinos altogether I would be 5 points shy of adding three Oblits, which may be worth it for a more competitive list. I guess I could run one squad with 1 plasma, 1 melta to get the 5 points needed to field 3 Oblits, or alternatively, run each squad with 1 plasma, 1 melta, but that might limit each squads efficiency not being dedicated to a specific role. I guess I'll have to work on it.

The clue was in the title, you know, where it said 2,000 points.
