Was bored today, so i put together the rules for my Carniphant conversion I did a while ago.. might use him in a store game soon so I wanted to have it all written down for the organizers to look at...

It's basically just a fex with 2 sets of tallons and 2 venom cannons, paying full price for all weapons and a selection of biomorphs to make him tough... comes in at 259 pts!

hehe just updated it a bit, tried to write it the way the others are so it starts out with base pts, then you add whatever pts the weapons cost

me too But I just wanted it to be a fex that was suped up a little, and just used the pts & upgrades in the codex.. I didn't want to start cranking up stats at random since I dunno what pts value to make it.. I guess I could have used the monster builder vdr thingy that army builder has.. or at least the old version had that..

I think if I were to make a 2nd one some day, the crushing claws would be the best choice.. you can run instead of shoot and get up in combat a little quicker, and have a chance at 10 attacks if you roll good for the claws, swinging right before the powerfists.

but it's really meant to just be some basic rules written out so I can play games with it and my opponents know what it can do.

Believe me, BS4 wouldn't make that thing any more expensive. It's pricey enough as it is.

Keep in mind Necros that this is Apocalypse. In Apocalyse you get maybe 3 or 4 turns done before the Sun goes down (and sometimes comes up again). Any Apocalypse unit either has to be:

1. Long-living, so you get lots of use out of it.
2. Hard-hitting, so even if it dies quickly, it causes an impact.

If it does not do either of these things, it won't be any fun to use.

A slightly suped up 'Fex won't do either. If I'm bringing something for that many points, where it will participate in 3 or 4 shooting phases, total, I want it to be able to do something beyond leaving me dissapointed 2 turns in a row.

True.. i'm actually expecting it to incur the wrath of every lascannon in range, so I'm not expecting him to live past turn 3. I could give him enhanced senses X2 maybe, to crank up his BS. I was also thinking for the barbed strangler version, would it be better to just place & scatter the same template twice on the same unit, or treat it as a barrage weapon with 2 big pie plates next to each other. Dunno which would be more "fair".. hitting and pinning the same unit twice, or the possibility of 2-3 units if they're close enough together... I'm thinking of popping off his arms and then magnetizing em so I can change his weapons around depending on the game

Most of the apoc games I've done and will do are usually multiplayer games capped at 3000 pts per player, so they actually go kinda quick all things considered.. about 5 hours or so tops.

Question: Is this just a more-or-less normal carnifex entry that you made into a snazzy APOC PDF? Because it's quite snazzy

yeah it's a fex, I just ignored the "may take two weapons" thing and gave him the stuff with the pts from the book to make him WISYWIG, so since the model has 2 sets of tallons and 2 venom cannons, I paid for all 4 upgrades. And then I just added normal biomorphs to beef him up I did it with the fex rules just to have a guide of some sort for the pts instead of just making it up off the top of my head during my lunch break (like GW does :p)

oh and for the pdf itself, I do graphic design for a living so I have the programs ya need for building it but you could probably do it with something like microsoft publisher too.. I just took their blank PDF and brought into InDesign and set that as a background layer, then I added text boxes for all the other parts. Not too tough to do really
