How is this 'tweaked' for 5E?

Where are the large kroot units?

Why single units of suits? Not afraid of lascannons?

Partial mech, partial not.

Makes me cry to see lists like this...

So I'm taking that as a 'yes' on scrapping the Stealth team for more suits.

All kroot do in games is die. I might as well invest in other things that could actually make it to the end game.

Partial mech, partial not...isn't that all the armies out there pretty much.

In my last game I crushed my opponent's necrons 1500 vp to 80 with this list.

You beat Necrap? Say it ain't so.

None of my armies are partial anything. It's mech, or no mech.

Kroot in 5E scare everybody.

No Tau troops will make it to the endgame. You can dick yourself with useless fire warriors if you really want to, I ain't gonna stop ya.

I run a grand total of 6 fw.

Cause I have to.

With how 5th Edition works Kroot are almost necessary. 3+ Cover Save in trees, great counter charge unit, infiltrate is money now and they'll allow your Fire Warriors to stay out of assault for a few more turns.

Reasons I'm hesitant about Kroot (and believe me I've used them before):
- No armour save
- No guarantee I'll get woods everytime
- Initiative 3 means they'll get smacked around before being able to swing
- Any decent assault unit the Kroot will speed bump will have frag grenades or equivalents, making cover useless

I'm keeping a large kroot unit for the quantity of fire they can provide for one, count it, one shooting phase. Beyond that they will die the turn they get assaulted.

Firewarriors, I can keep safe in my Devilfishes flying around with 4+ cover saves. Firewarriors will be able to get me those objectives late in the game because my opponent won't have been shooting at them.

If your Kroot die, you're doing it right.

That is that many attacks not brought against your heavy hitters. They are INTENDED to distract the enemy, keep them from bothering your important units for one or two turns. If they are ignored, they will regret it, as when you add Kroot Hounds (Initiative 5) you'll be doing a lot of damage before they fall.

Guess I have a different mentality, but I see the point.

Right now, it's between the pathfinders and more suits.
Help?

I don't see the purpose of the pathfinders in this list. It seems like the fish would better serve the Fire Warriors.

They were there for the sake of markerlights.

I would have to say the Kroot are borderline here. You could line them up so that your Fire Warriors get a save against AP4 guns (which there are plenty of out there), but I think that having another unit of FW couldn't hurt. Also, I personally don't think that you should have the Crisis suits split up across the board. As for the Heavy Support, it looks good, but I would say drop the Advanced Stabilization System on the Broadside. It's 10 wasted points IMO, as you don't really want your broadside moving, and if you want him to move to say, contest an objective or get a new LOS, the distance he can cover is meager at the most reliable of times. You almost don't need one, but if you like it, keep it. They're better at anti-tank than Hammerheads, but with a great deal less in survivability. I suggest keeping it back in a far corner, where the enemy couldn't get you without either moving his heavy weapons or moving his vehicles into your line of fire.

And if you're debating over suits or Pathfinders, I would say get more pathfinders into one squad, and then drop the other fish. Then you can get some more suits.

Catch me if you can.

Ideally, my Firewarriors would be in cover already, thereby getting a cover save anyways. I can definitely see the use of Kroot, but I don't know if they're actually helpful in my list as opposed to being there for the sake of being there.

I'd prefer my pathfinders split into seperate sqauds so they can target different things instead of an overkill of markerlights shining on one target.

Good point on the ASS, it's more of a 'just in case' at the moment.

I think you'll want more Crisis Suits in the army. I use six plus my commander and have had a lot of success recently keeping them close together. Having seven XV8's close to one another makes a nasty strike force that can flank almost anything and roll through to the middle. Almost any unit in it's way is smoked and they keep going to the next target.

I traded in the pathfinders for more suits.

Have a game tomorrow against either Chaos, Marines, or Eldar (two vs. two), I think I'll stand a decent chance.

On a side note....can Kroot take advantage of the 'taxi transport' rule?

Yes, yes they can.

Just need a name for it (Krootlefish?)

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I suddenly have images of the devilfish rush with units of kroot unloading and charging into the enemy...

Well anyways, thanks for everyone's input, I think this list is finally where I want it to be. Now just got to grab those crisis suits and plan for expansion
