I am very excited about the possible new rules for this. I could convert my own, or buy the model itself I don't care, I just want to use one. In other forums people have been saying it would have to be 100 points, I disagree. It will probably be no more than 50 points. This is why.

This will be open topped because scouts do not wear power armour.

It looks as if it is armed with a heavy bolter thus making it a transport more than a gun ship.

Realistically it can probably only transport 5 scouts.

If scouts infiltrate they may lose their ability in lieu of a points drop for the model itself as it would be dedicated to their unit selection

If the rumours are true it will only be BS 3

Fast Vehicle Nerf. It can only move 18 inches now.

It has a forward mounted heavy bolter next to the pilot, the CAD drawing shows that much. Troops with the scout rule can always move up through the flanks, something I can see this thing do.

Hopefully something more concrete will show up at Germany GD; I'll believe it when I actually see a model.

I'm hoping and wouldn't be surprised if a number of transported scouts can shoot out of the Landspeeder. I see images of sniper scouts shooting as this thing circles.

Also I doubt we'll see any pictures of the actual model of this for a while as it looks more and more like its in the secondary space marine release that will happen months after the codex comes out.

The Space marine scout compant formation in Apoc.: reloaded lists "0-10 Land Speeder Storms" as being options for the formation. Guess that must be what it's called then ?

Scouts don't have 'Scout' USR they only have infiltrate, atleast right now.

Infiltrators can do the outflank manuever like Scouts but there's a bit of an ambiguity as to whether a unit with infiltrate can be embarked in their dedicated transport and still outflank.

Ah, there is that then!

Sorry about that!

Maybe they'll have something like it in the new Marine Codex.

Are there any units with Infiltrate that can have a Dedicated Transport?

Chaos Chosen can infiltrate, if you give them a dedicated transport (rhino) they lose this ability as far as I know.

Well no duh. I was just talking imagery wise. Also we don't even know the rules for this thing yet.

The rumors have this thing being able to enter from table edges like the on foot scouts can and that it may get the scout move when it does come on.

Maybe it comes with a built-in teleport/drop homing beacon that allows deep-striking units to home in on it, I can see a light and fast scout skimmer do something like that: pop up on the flank of the enemy, zoom into position and guide the heavier units in for the blow.

As we've seen pretty much every other model that is to be released for the new SMs except this one (only other exclusion to that I can think of is the new landspeeder kit but we've seen pics of the sprue format) that it will either:
A: Not be released at all ala the drop pod last edition.
B: Be in the 'second wave' of models that GW seems to be looking to.

This model will most likely be second wave as all we have is an artistic rendering and a CAD drawing of it.

They are marines, however. Much like the whole "powered armor means not open-topped" nonsense, I'm sure they'll think of some excuse.

Yes, but they're marines in carapace armor, not power armor...

Indeed, only open-topped vehicles crewed by peeps with armour of 3+ or better no longer count as open-topped. Unless the Storm Speeder jumps a hoop and does some things under the desk, thus becoming an exception to the set rules.

I get the feeling that this unit will either have a bunch of special rules to compensate for the open topped and carapace armored nature of the scouts or it will be a death trap. Its main advantage is its ability to quickly enter the table and get to where it needs to go. I think we will see something along the lines of allowing the scouts to fire out of it to balance out the death trap nature of scouts in a open topped vehicle. I feel that even the idea of the unit is someone at GW with a thing for the movie "Blackhawk Down."

Well the thing is if it is open topped they can assault out of it. After playing my first 2 games of 5th edition I realized how important it is to win assaults. Charging is so much more crucial now.

Yeah, but how much do you really want to be throwing your Scouts into close combat? They're pretty far down on my list of SM units I'd want to use as an assault unit.

against other meq's, certain aspect warriors, genestealers and monsterous creatures i would refrain. There are generally units in any army that are worth assaulting though. if not to kill them then for tactical purposes. Maybe scouts will be troops in the new codex.

If a unit has the scout or infiltrate rule and a dedicated transport they can outflank with the transport, but they must be embarked in the vehicle. So yay for chosen in rhinoes. How many scouts is that thing gonna hold? It might be worth assaulting out of if it can carry 10.

It holds 5 scouts but will probably coming in squadrons. Its field worthiness will be its rules or cheap value. GW will probably pile on the rules and give it a low point value just because its a whole new model and they can only justify new things by making them worth while on the table.

As opposed to army list items which are wholly useful and desired by Space Marine players everywhere, such as Drop Pods, but that GW still has not made models for.

We are getting a drop pod with new codex, the landspeeder storm waits till the second release months after the codex. I think drop pods are good tactically, strategically it will be bad sacrificing free kills with our automatically immobilized vehicles. Just remember it took GW almost 15 years to release an updated landraider and that was a more wholly useful and desired model. From introduction into the rules to when they've made a model for the drop pod hasn't reached that point. The fact its being supported now is great and GW could just have easily dropped the drop pod from the codex. This is and always has been a hobby that said if we don't make one build it, so don't bring the brooding, go have fun and leave the brooding for nids.

This landspeeder presents an opportunity for a game changing unit for marines, an open topped fast skimmer that can transport, distinctly different than any other marine unit in that regard.

It will be a nice new shiny unit, but I'm not sure how game changing it will actually end up being!

Unless you can buy two for a squad of 10 scouts, and they can act in concert?

Remains to be seen, especially as GW has been pretty good at holding the details on this fairly close to the vest.

If scouts are troops selections they would still be viable in 5 man squads. Cheap scoring units. Being able to move up to 24 inches in an opentopped transport and holding or contesting it would be worth it. Having to kill squads to the last man makes them more viable. That is if they are troops still.
