Rotting Sorcerer of Nurgle

played in the 1000point challenge at Pompy GW toady. i was playing with my deathguard army (featured a couple of weeks ago in the painting section) and was against tyrinids. part way through the game i was in combat with my termies & typhus against 4 units including warriors, genesteelers and a carnifex! i won the combat by 5 wounds (the carni really spooned it, killing only 1 model!). as every thing was fearless, it was degreed (by shop staff) that all of his units had to take a further 5 saves each - brucey bonus for me!

in the end (turn 6) it came down to the carni (now with 1 wound left) against a six man plague marine squad with a sargent with power fist. after spooning his attacks again i was left with 1 plague marine that had already attacked and the sargent - 2 chances to score a wound and i did it. all hail the plague father!

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

This cannot be the actual rules, is it?
Had your termie unit lost combat, would it have to make 4 morale tests?

Shouldn't each squad test based on how much that squad lost combat by?
ex: if the stealers suffered one wound, it would take a -1 not a full -5.

BTW, warriors and stealers are NOT fearless. Synapse does NOT make your units fearless.

that is how it works.
nids do not run so they are subject the "no retreat" rule
every unit takes hits equal to the number they lost by.

this will probally be the best way to take out c-tan. get them in a joint combat with a squad of warriors and wound warriors ctan then is looking at 5 or 6 4+ saves. you just need to have one guy with a fist or at least str 5.

Yep, since the multiple units' SIDE lost combat by 'x' number of wounds, each unit is subject to morale and no-retreat issues based on that number.

Tyranids are not conferred fearless per se. but are subject to the No Retreat rule as per BGB wording (will never fall back).

That which does not kill us, makes us stronger. That which kills us, makes us stronger. We are the terror in the night, the shadow in the warp.

I do not have a copy of 5th - seems I need to borrow my friend's (or aquire an e-copy*).
That changes tactics a bit for 'Nid, but not too much.
Thanks for the heads up.

One squad wouldn't have to make 4 morale tests, but if you had 4 squads in the combat, they would each have to take a morale check at the appropriate modifier (if your side lost by 4, you'd have 4 squads testing at -4 to Ld). Any that fail and get caught on the breakaway move would then take 4 wounds per the No Retreat! rule.

That's how it was in 4th edition too. Every unit in the side that lost had to test/take wounds separately. Nothing new here except what goes into determining the modifier/number of wounds.

You had 32 hormies lose combat by 5 so lose 5 more models in 4th? Impossible for Hormies to ever wound a Dread no matter the numbers? Warriors _TOTALLY_ incapable of taking out a bunker (honestly if it isnt a MC it cannot hit a Bunker/Fortified Position) let alone the unit inside it?
Wow, you were playing _wrong_ man. Did you not read the outnumbering rules? They were removed FYI. The hordes now take bonus damage for being a horde. Yaaay for troops!

This set is ricockuluously hard on Tyranids. Sure, we can "cope with new tactics" as someone else said, but its still crazy harsh. Our troops are the very definition of "fodder".
Nidzilla+stealershock is becoming needed to play Nids now assuming you want to ... you know... win? No 'stealers left = chance there are not any scoring Tyranids.

Really, outnumbering never really worked before either. If I killed 5 gaunts, you still wouldn't bring your numbers to bear if you didn't kill 5 guys. And the rule of "if outnumbered 2:1 and losing combat, walkers take a glancing hit" was really kind of bogus - if 20+ troopers charge a dreadnought, they aren't going to be likely to hurt it, meaning they can't WIN, so they won't ever get the chance to outnumber.

the main advantage to having a horde is all the attacks + bodies to soak hits. If you got all those attacks AND combat resolution bonuses, elite armies would never be able to be played.
