There's been quite a bit of discussion around the 'net about power creep in the 3 recent armies of HE, VC, and Daemons. We've now had adepticon, Balt, Colonial, and other major tourneys this year. So which armies are doing well? GW has posted the names of players on the GW circuit standings, but not which armies they've been using. Is there anything to the power creep gripes or is it all just so much hot air?

Around So Cal, I have heard that HE's are doing very well.

There have been some real cheesy VC armies down here.

Anyone know how the Bretonnians are doing?

The Colonial was won by new Vampires (new Demons were not in play for the event, not that it would have mattered a lot).
Baltimore GD & the Necro were won by Demons

Baltimore GD had two VC armies that were right behind the #1 Demon player (shout out to Negativemoney) who were also undefeated for the event.

Honestly, those two armies are the top dogs. HE are better than a lot of the lower armies that just can't deal with ASF (my Ogres suck vs. that, for example).

@Voodoo Boyz, why would it have not mattered if Demons were legal for the Colonial. It seems that they won the other 2 events you mentioned, would the have not won the Colonial?

The guy who won the Colonial is probably one of the best VC players there is.

It may have mattered. I really just wanted to point out that it was a major event Demons weren't in use at - though it'd very arguable that the old SoC DL Lists were as bad as the new ones; and they were there in full force.

Voodoo, thanks for the response. Do you know anything more about the army lists? Has it been the tzeentch ultra-magic daemons doing well, or a mix? And are we actually seeing the really elite, really high magic VC who summon all their core units in-game or have they been more standard high magic zombie/skeleton hordes that have been winning GTs for the last several years?

Negativemoney won with Pure Slaanesh, I believe his armylist is posted here. It's based around Psychology manipulation and the Greater Demon.

The person won the Necro with Pure Khorne, Blood Thirster, Standard of Sundering, min units of Blood Letters, 4 units of hounds, 3 Heralds on Juggers, and some Furies.

For Vamps, the person who won the Colonial had a fairly tame VC army (still strong, but nothing super broken), it had a little bit of everything, I think it was 2 units of skeletons, 1 unit of Zombies, 4 units of dogs, big grave guard block, unit of black knights, Casty Lord but only level 3, with a Necro and I think a Vampire.

The other VC armies that did well (at both events) were your normal Power Dice affairs where they summoned most things in the army up, had the Regen Banner, Helm, etc.

Thanks Voodoo. My local group is mostly new players so I'm a lot less able to keep up with the newest power-lists. The composition of those daemon lists is a little surprising for me. I was thinking tzeentch might be top dog, and anyone who can manage Khorne frenzy well against top competition definitely deserves a lot of credit.

FYI, Khorne Demons do not have Frenzy in the new Army Book. It's what makes them so good now.

I don't have the exact results, but I understand Chaos Daemons dominated the top positions in Tides of Chaos at Reading (50 players) 2 weeks ago. Might be up on TWF.

Empire seems to be keeping up with Top 3 placings, but by "Empire" I mean Walter + 1-2 stanks. And as noted, wood elves look to be rocking strong, though I've seen fewer tourny wins by them then in the pre-demons/vamps days.

Vampires and Demons seems to be the armies to beat. Top 3 for Ardboys was 2 VC and Demons. I came in 4th with Empire.

Wood elves I find just losses to Demons and VC and is too terrain dependent.
