Hey all,

After finished 'Grey Knight' and reading and re-reading the recent GK Tactica, I've decided to throw my long-neglected Pure GK force back into the fray. I currently have a decent composition of models, but just saw a remark regarding using FAGK and Purge squads simply for more GKPAs without upgrades. Since a lot of the games my group sets up have recently been Apoc. games, a GK Horde is something I could see myself fielding to high effect (since we lack Super-Heavies or FW, except my airforce, i do not fear being blasted off the board). I want to achieve this as frugally as possible. I can order Plastic SM sprues I just need to consider how to make/get the helmets and stormbolters so they blend well with the rest of my GKPA. I will probably order the Halberds from GW. My questions are as follows:

1) What SM sprue would you think is best to base GKs off of? (BT, DA, Regular?)

2a) How do you suggest making GK model helmets?

2b) Where would you look to purchase GK-like helmets? (Crusader helm?)

3) Whats the cheapest/easiest way to make stormbolter strapped arms? (While still looking good, and not like two bolters glued to an arm)

4) Besides GW, is there a better way to make decent halberd arms?

All these questions are as if I were making 40-70 Plastic GK. Thanks in advance for any help!

I've done this and the short answer is that there is no "easy" way to do it. However, there is a lot of room for creative freedom.

I used tactical and assault sprues, but it didn't matter because I was upscaling them all and did major work to every single leg. Sticking to mark 6 greaves has a more GK look so keep that in mind.

I can post a tutorial for building a very good halberd if you want. Getting plastic bits isn't as easy and cheap as it used to be though.

I made my own collared torso armor (with the holy book box on the front) and knightish helms using plastic and putty. It's less expensive than bits ordering crusader helms but much more time consuming. There are quite a few tuts on Bolter and chainsword if you have good search-fu.

I would say get the BT sprues, they have shields and that on them that can be used for nice bits of decoration, and to make them look more like GK. Try chaos warrior heads maybe, and for halberds, I suggest brass rod, plasticard and GS. I have no idea for stormbolters I'm afraid, besides buying them from bitz sites. Good luck!

for the heads you could slice the terminator heads below the eyes so they have that knightly face plate.

The whole world's a stage, you're either an actor or a prop; it's up to you which one.

I did something similar, although mine involved a little putty

For Power Armoured Knights, your best bet is the Black Templars sprue.

@Greebynog - I love that GK conversion - not that Insaniak's aren't, well, insane, but Greeb's are do-able for someone with moderate conversion skills. Nicely done.

I'm still waiting to see some really solid PA GK conversions, though.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Not my work I'm afraid, I can't clam the credit for that one.
