Subject: Eldar Holo-Fields vs. Ordnance

Unless I've missed it, how many dice and which ones (highest, lowest) are used when an ordnance weapon hits and Eldar vehicle with Holo-fields. I wonder if they shouldn't just change Holo-Fields to be a cover save that would be more in line with how to might envision them working. What does everyone think?

This would have been a great question for the Eldar FAQ, had the Eldar FAQ been in any way updated for the new rules. Seeing as it wasn't, I don't know if there is an officially correct answer, but the simplest thing to do would be to have the effects cancel out. Otherwise, I suppose you could roll three dice and apply the middle result.
Changing holo-fields to a cover save would be a bad idea, as it would be redundant with SMF.

Err, what's the problem here?
If Ordnance hits a vehicle with Holo-Fields, it rolls two dice and picks the highest when trying to penetrate (as normal.)
If it penetrates/glances, you then roll two dice and apply the lowest on the damage table due to the Holo Fields.
In other words, the two rules do not interact at all.

And in fact they also work exactly like they did in 4th, with the exception of, between taking the highest of 2d6 to see if it glanced/penned and taking the lowest of 2d6 for the damage table, you take your cover save if you're obscured or moving flat out. But otherwise exactly like Zoned said, they're rolls for completely different things, and they also don't interact with cover saves.

Wipes egg from face. Well that would be part of the "unless I missed it" part of my question. I misread the rule and thought it was 2d6 on the damage table take the highest. Which if that was the case the rule would conflict with the holo-field Part of the problem was at the midnight release party at my local GW they had a 1000point tourney. The organizer had the bright idea that starting the third game we switched to 5th ed rules. That was not conducive to quick play trying to learn new rules during the tourney. Somehow the Ordnance rule was miss read and obviously stuck.
The cover save thing was just thrown out as I think that's kinda of how they used to work for titans in the old epic rules. Maybe I'll post that Idea separately in the proposed rules section.
sirisaacnuton to you thanks pointing that out I found and reread the rule realizing that I had it memorized incorrectly from the night of the tourney.

Deadshane- Would you prefer a Forum where we all act in a Grandiose manner, and look down on those who ask questions in good faith Sir?
I wouldn't like that one one bit.
