Bat Country

I had a friend argue this against me last weekend. My Chaos Sorcerer had just passed his psychic test to use LoS past Eldrad's roll three take all ability to Lash Eldrad's unit forward (In the grim darkness of the far future there is only Eldrad). Then he happily proclaims "I still get a cover save though!".

We then proceeded to argue. I said it only follows the counts as a shooting attack to target. He said it counts as shooting so he gets a cover save because his guys went to the ground to prevent from being moved (Would of probably lost him his unit along with Eldrad). But he argued and argued and raised all kind of hell so I gave it to him. Then he had Eldrad bend me over... again. I need a Kharn, but back on topic. I don't think you get cover saves from pyschic powers that don't actually have weapon profiles. He does. Who is right?

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Cover Saves are a type of Saving Throw. Saving throws are taken against attacks.

Lash is not an attack.

However, if he wants to push the issue, let him have his save.

What does a Saving Throw do?
- It allows a model to avoid taking damage from an attack. (Page 20, first paragraph)

So, you Lash the unit.
He takes a Cover Save... Each model that makes a successful save receives no damage from the Lash.
Resolve the Lash movement as normal.

Doesn't actually help him... but hey, he gets his Save...

The unit would get moved even if they didn't make the save (that they don't get), regardless of Going to Ground or not. You are still affected by enemy actions normally.

Catch me if you can.

I think lash is indeed a psychic shooting attack in that it is used in the shooting phase instead of using another weapon (although we don't know for sure until they say in the FAQ which of the Chaos powers are psychic shooting attacks like the rest of the FAQs).

But with that said, saving throws are only made against wounds. Lash doesn't cause any wounds and therefore there is nothing to make a save against.
