Somebody brought this up on another forum, and I just wanted to get some feedback from some fellow Dakkites.
So having bought your autarch swooping hawk wings [or a warp jump generator for that matter], can you plonk him in a waveserpent with a squad of Banshees and see what craziness happens?
As the BRB says only infantry are allowed in transports unless otherwise specified [like wraithguard for instance], it would seem like this is a no-no, but I wanted to see what other people thought. Maybe he just takes up two slots?
Its not a bad idea if its legal...winged autarch with fusion gun and power weapon stuck with some banshees - zoom them 36" at the enemy. If their transport get crashed, watch them test for pinning on ld 10 [lol], then next turn charge the whole lot into some hapless SMs, or split the autarch off to fry some lurking predator. 12" move over intervening models would be a big help, and his BS-crazy fusion gun is in prime hunting territory. Alternatively jump him into some sad heavy-weapon toting squad, otherwise screened and hard to get at.
Before I get too excited, anybody willing to confirm its not legal? Or is it playable...

Does giving him the wings turn him into jump infantry?

Oh, yes, that is the point of contention. Upgrading him with Hawk Wings either does or does not turn him into jump infantry. The decent stance is probably just that it does. But not necessarily.
Words of wisdom please?

Well, generally jump infantry is defined as a model who uses the jump pack rules. So yes, he is probably classed as jump infantry and therefore cannot fit in a transport.

In the Chaos Codex giving a character wings does not make him jump infantry he just moves as jump infantry as per the 5th ed faq

That is very true, but it is also spelled out clearly. I don't remember reading anything that makes Swooping Hawk wings count as anything (jump infantry or otherwise)... The FAQ doesn't say anything about this specifically. All of their rulings are geared towards- Auturchs must have the same gear as the unit they are joined to if they want to benefit from the abilities (Wings, Generators, etc). That doesn't specifically say they count as jump infantry in this case, but it MAY be an INDICATION (RAI) that is their view of the general situation. Not a very good answer (actually not muchof one at all). Sorry.

Alright, so he may or may not be able to.
The people that I have talked to that say he can't just say he's jump infantry, but is this entirely RAW. Its more RAI to me.
Anyone have anything more definitive to say on this?

Alright I just looked at the codex, and its definitive:
Putting an Autarch with a WJG or Wings in a Serpent is entirely illegal, as on page 60 of the codex it says:
"Autarch Unit Type: Infantry (or jetbike with bike, or jump infantry with WJG or wings)."
And serpents can only transport infantry+ wraithguard.
End of story
