Is there a method of list building that changes based on point value? For example, I've got a solid 1500 point IG list that you folks helped me with. Should a 1750 or 2000 point list just add more of the same across the board or are there certain elements that enter the game at this point level that require different options? Will there suddenly be some hard to kill tyranid bug that people can't afford until this level, that will require me to have something equally deadly? I'm ultimately aiming to play an Apocalypse game. My tendency at the higher point value is to want to "loosen up" some of the existing choices that didn't make as much sense at 1500 points and also try new things that were either/or choices at a lower point value. Must maintain discipline....

The main difference as you increase in points is the ability to tailor make your army. In 1000 points you are pretty much limited to the 'basics', so all armies are more or less well rounded. As the points increase i notice a trend towards extreme specialization, expecially if someone builds a 2k army, rather than expanding a 1k one. I think all tourneys should be run on an escalation stlye format, with a single list that played at 1500, 1750, 2000, or 2250 points. That would be the single best thing for composition ever.

it varies from army to army. some armies scale very well, as in there are lots of good stuff you can have that you can keep getting, other dont so much.

for example most tau armies tend to fill up their elite and heavy support choices very quickly, because they do well, but their troops and fast attack arent that good. so when they git a certain points level, say 2000, a tau army will start to struggle, more than say, a nid army, who have some of the best basic troops in the game.

most armies will hit a cap in standard games, some later than others.

at 1500pts nids can start using fexes as elite choices, people start bringing more big stuff and as a result more stuff to kill big stuff.

at 2000+pts you pretty much see the limit of the how many great things an army has to offer. so people start having to bring more trash to make up the points.

these arent objective certanties, however, but general trends.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
