Do the detached gun drones from a Devilfish bought for fire warriors count as a non-vehicle troops unit and are therefore scoring?

If so Devilfish spam may be able to really claim objectives at end game, especially if they drop off their firewarriors on an objective, then zoom off, detatch their gun drones, and claim another objective at end game.

Is this correct, or am I missing something?

Would the gundrones count as scoring while attached? Much like the devilfish counting as scoring when the firewarriors are in it? the gun drones ARE a non-vehicle unit bought as a troop choice, so I can't see why this would not work.

any thoughts?

Gun drones are fast attack, and so don't count as scoring.

I'm still not sure if they count as a separate kill point, though.

They don't count as a separate kill point (I think on the faq there was something like this)

Gun drones don't score, but they can contest.

They can also blow up Predator Annihilators by shooting at rear armour

but these ones are bought as a troops choice, rather than as the fast attack entry due to the fact that they come with a dedicated trasport bought with a troops unit.

They are a separate unit (if detached), troop choice and not a vehicle...
It seems that they do count as scoring.

I believe an earlier FAQ stated they were not scoring as they were extra but that has been changed with 5th edition.
Very cool.

The latest FAQ doesn't specifically call this out...

But it does say in another question that they function as a Drone Squadron. You could assume (ha!) that the Drones could contest an objective, but not claim it, even if the Devilfish was bought for a Troop.

There is a place beneath those ancient ruins in the moor…

Unless the FAQ says something about it, the drones would, in fact, be a non-vehicle troop unit and thus able to actually hold objectives. An interesting find you have there. Even more so because they are not scoring while they are attached to the devil fish.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

codex tau empire page 30.

gun drones.

blah blah blah they may detach from vehicals blah blah.

"from then on, the drones function as a drone squadron. the drones may not rejoin the vehicle during a game and will never count as a scoring unit"

now then. i do belive that they may contest objs, and quarters. but can not claim them.

much they same way as the sniper drone team is not a "scoring unit" as per its rules... but can now contest objs if i understand this 5th ed rule.

still, though, to claim an objective you have to be the ONLY unit on it. If a single enemy unit is within 3" even if you've got 6 troops choices on an objective, it's contested.

So careful deposition of gun drones from devilfish at the end of a game can really screw with an enemy, and turn a tie into a tau win very suddenly.

Regardless of how they were bought, the Transport is not a scoring unit because it is a vehicle, and they were bought as part of the vehicle. Once they detach, they assume the Leadership and all other qualities of the Fast Attack choice.

They are fun to use to contest, but they cannot claim.

I use them to annoy people, as drones have always been intended. If a squad is contesting an Objective, they have to shoot the drones before they can fully claim it, and if they ignore the drones they don't get credit for the captured objective, thus taking up that entire units shooting phase just to take out two silly little drones.

DF gundrones are always great for a nuisance unit, and like others have said, I see nothing to stop them from contesting objectives. I'm still replacing all of mine with SMS systems, but its nice to know that the pair off of my Pirahna now can do more for the end game than just try to get shots at rear armor.
