Recently I bought some Spawn models from a member of these boards, and used some of the pieces to create what I think is a pretty decent model for Summoned Greater Daemon. The bird-like head, bony dilapidated wings, and spiny body seem to gel with the idea of a Summoned Greater Daemon being somehow imperfectly hatched from the unfortunate Champion, and certainly not the magnificent Cuckoo of Chaos that seeds reality with its eggs during a full on Daemonic Incursion.

This brings me to my first question:

What colours should I paint this Greater-Daemon-Spawn? I was thinking of the traditional palette, bright yellow and electric blue. But I've seen these really cool Horrors that a talented member of these boards has painted, incorporating bright green into the traditional palette, and I figured some sort of bright but fleshy hybrid might be something.

All this thinking about painting, and reading a battle report where someone apparently used a plastic Balrog model as a Daemon Prince, and the intriguing suggest of casting both Warp-Time and Wind of Chaos with a Tzeentchian Daemon Prince, inspired me to consider complementing my growing legions of Daemons enslaved by my Chaos Space Marines to include a Daemon Prince.

Part of the reason I thought that using the Balrog would be cool was that I really like the flames on the Flamers of Tzeentch (no wonder GW hasn't released them in plastic yet, those are awesome Daemon miniatures) and figured that a Daemon Prince burning with the flames of Change would be cool. For the Prince I figured a traditional colour scheme would work, but I don't simply want a Swedish Balrog: I want a Tzeentchian Daemon Prince.

I figured the most obvious place to start would be replacing the Balrog bat-wings with feather wings. I also want to replace the head with something. One of the left-over Spawn heads that I was has a nice suggestion of the horror of Change, but I also kind of want to go for something more traditional and birdlike - preferably open to give that impression of it breathing out the fiery Winds of Change (aka Wind of Chaos).

This brings me to my second question:

What would be good feathered wings available from GW? Any big enough and in plastic? Similarly, are there any good large (like Griffon-sized) plastic heads that would make suitable Tzeentchian heads? What else could I do using the Balrog model to convey Tzeentch-y burniness? I figure I'll have to break out the green-stuff, but besides that, what?

you could use the tzeentch greater daemon wings (orderable seperatly from the rest of the model). maybe a body part half way through shapeshifting would be good for tzeentchy goodness i mean tzeentch is change afterall.

A redshirt at GW rice did something similar. He used Nurgly colors (pardon the pun). It was inspired.

corpsesarefun:

Thanks. That's one set of wings then. I want the change represented by the Balrog's flames, mainly, but it would certain be a neat idea to sculpt the base of the wings where they attach to the body so they look like feathered wings sprouting from bat wings.

That's good to hear: I know its possible then. I take it was for a Nurgle Daemon Prince?
