Am I mistaken? FW with a devilfish (usually upgrades). Deploy separately with DF next to kroot. Turn 1 board kroot and move 18inchs. Turn 2, deploy or move further for tactical advantage or options. Makes a nice HTH unit with a bit more mobility if needed.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Heck, I think you can start the Kroot in the devilfish. However, because of the new Dedicated Transport rules, putting such a unit in a Devilfish is perfectly acceptable.

Catch me if you can.

This really seems more of a Tactics topic.

As far as legality, seems clear.

Moz:
You: "Hold on, you rammed, that's not a tank shock"
Me: "Ok so what is a ram, lets look at the rules."
Rulebook: "A ram is a special kind of tank shock"
You: "So it's a tank shock until it hits a vehicle, and then it's a ram, not a tank shock, and then it goes back to being a tank shock later!"
Me: "Yeah it doesn't really say any of that in here, how about we just play by what's written in here?"

You cannot start one unit (A) in another unit's (B) dedicated transport, but on Turn 1 unit A can embark on the Devilfish. Unfortunately a Devilfish can only move 12" IIRC. Fast vehicles may move 18", and fast skimmers move 24". Devilfish may only count as Fast for purposes of shooting.

Tactics if legal I agree. Two issues I had, the thumbing a lift off the DF seems OK to me - starting in it not OK. However, the large base size of the Krootox I would have thought takes up two spaces (as terminators do) but cannot see anything to indicate otherwise. I suppose the Krootox just curls up in the corner of the Devilfish like a cute kitten to take up less space.

When the codex was written there was no way for the Krootox to get a ride so there was no reason to say if it takes up one or two model spaces. However, things have changed. And since it doesn't say it takes up two spaces, I'd allow it to only take up one.

Go tau. Not a real bad idea actually for some HTH punch.

Come on, Tau with HTH punch from a Skimmer they can't assault out of? I dunno about that one.

I don't know if I'd want to lose the infiltrate option for the kroot either. Against gunlines, it's priceless.

So its more of a matter of getting out and rapid firing the kroot rifles and Kroot gun, then next turn dealing with the assault. The krootox (and the kroot in general) will help in that regard.

Might make a good speed bump to a assaultish squad, or get in the way of a horde rush gunning for the Tau front line. The D-fish will just let them get where they need to go with some decent protection.

BS3 S4 x20 + BS3 S7 x4 vs 24 S5 shots? No markerlight support?

Kroot in such small numbers lose combat even against 5 man combat squads, they need hounds to be effective imo.

I'd say if you are running Tau Devilfish in numbers, you probably won't be running more 1 or 2 kroot squads with nothing extra, just to reserve in from the side and try to take an objective away.

I guess I should say I am more scared of FW out of Fish than I am Kroot out of Fish. Especially the BS5 ones on my squishy T3 guys. Man even unboosted they hurt bad. lol

There are no BS5 firewarriors, most are BS3 and the ethereal guard are only BS4. So to get BS5 firewarriors they must be "boosted?" by marker lights.

Yes.

Red_Lives, the first time you have to soak up 36 Str5 BS5 guns starting from 30" away for 3-4 turns, you'll want it to be your last time -- especially if you're too short-ranged to shoot back (BT).

However, a transport may not move flat out on the turn that a unit embarks.............

The Devilfish cannot Flat-out at all. it can move 0" to 12", but not up to 18". It is a Tank, and not Fast.

It's legal, yes, but I think it would only be really good for dumping kroot into a forest bunker, to let them get a 3+ save and attack first in assault.

I won't be using this, as my Devilfish pilots refuse to let Kroot Ox in the 'Fish, after that one time they tried it and the dang thing ****ed everywhere.

Also, the flank march option with the kroot is just proving to be too useful. I've tried it twice, and in one they took a demon prince down to 1/2 wounds and slowed him up to allow the rest of my army to blast him, and in the other they moved on, shot the arm off a dreadnought from behind, and generally made a nuisance of themselves in the enemies back lines. I'd rather be shuffling my 6 firewarrior EMP squads with the Devilfish.

There are no BS5 firewarriors? That's news to me.

Either you thought I didn't know about markerlights....or that I was referring to S as if it was BS.

Ah well.
