What's the difference between Vallejo Model Color and Game Color?

I'd appreciate painters' experience on texture/coverage/coloring. (I'm sure this question has been asked before, so any references to old threads are good.)

The colors are different.
Game Color mimics GW's colors and are named similarly to the color they're copying.

Quality is, essentially, the same, as it's all Vallejo.

I don't know about the metallics in Model Color, but I do NOT like the Game Color metallics. The metallic bits clog my brushes while I'm painting.

Game Color also dries a satin/flat finish like the Citadel Colours. The Model Colors I have used dried very flat.

I come from a time when basecoats were white, miniatures were metal, and my ork's gun glowed red; I am a McVey disciple.

Hmm.. Weird... ALL my Vallejo dry satiny.

... And they don't hold INK as well (as other brands of paint), either.

As I understand it, in addition to the above comments, game colour has a tougher finish and is less likely to suffer damage compared to model colour.

game colour (imo) is bright and cheery while model colour is based more on reality. i have some of both - i like when i don't have to mix blends (esp when doing an army over a period of time) and model colour has every colour you would wish for.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Yeah Game color was produced simpley to steal GW customers 99% of their colors are spot on and IMHO better quaility that its GW counter part. They look like GW paints when they are on a model they tend to be a bit thinner and easier to work with. Model color is made primaraly for historical type aplications and look very flat and authentic when painted on, they tend to be a bit thicker and more dry than Game color as well as reflecting real world colors and shades. Where as Game color has the moore Sci-Fi high fantasy eye catching golors. You want really good looking reallistic type guardsmen, go Mdoel color, but some how to me doing the same thing on a marine just dosnt look right, if that makes any sense.

One more note, the pigment is harder to mix together with the rest of the paint in the model colour range so they take a lot more shaking than game colour do. If you dont mix it together properly, then the paint will be too thick / thin / separated / etc and that can be an easy mistake with model colour. Model colour almost always need to be thinned out with water or an acrylic thinner to a greater extent than game colour. As said though, the model colour range is very extensive and is my personal preference too.

Gotcha, this makes sense from what I've seen online. I've been looking to fill out my paints with more realistic colors, so I'm going to investigate the Model line. Thanks!
