Okay, I'm a Tau player and my arch-nemesis in 40K3 was the Necrons. I didn't play V4 so I can't comment, but with V5 it seems that my old Nemesis may be more than a little hamstrung as many of the armies advanatges don't sit well with 40K5 rules.

Now to my mind, Necrons have always been kind of a dull army to play (they just have no personality, which I guess is okay fluff-wise for mindless Automatons) which seems to lead to very generic 'cookie cutter' lists. I want to know if y'all think that this is what the cokkie cutter 1850 list is going to look like in the 40K5 environment and find out what suggestions there are for improving it, what would be added or changed , would a C'Tan feature? And then I want to know, how you'd beat it with Tau!

Anyway here's the list in all it's cookie cutter glory. I think it's still similar to many 40K3/40K4 Necron set-ups:

  • HQ 1
    Necron Lord 100
    Destroyer Body 30
    Resurrection Orb 40
    Warscythe 10
    180

  • Troops 1
    10 Necron Warriors 180

  • Troops 2
    10 Necron Warriors 180

  • Troops 3

  • Fast Attack 2
    5 Destroyers 250

  • Heavy 1
    Monolith 235

    3 Heavy Destroyers 195

  • Heavy 3
    3 Heavy Destroyers 195

  • TOTAL 1845

    HQ Slots 1

Well it's been 24 hours, and I assume the lack of replies is simply due to the hideous boringness of the Necron army. Am I right?

    I didn't notice the thread.

Yes, Necrap are boring. Sorry, but hey you are on step 4: acceptance.

Drop the Monolith. It's either 2 or 3, not 1.

You need 3 units of destroyers and 3 units of heavy destroyers. So they get back up and are harder to destroy.

Immortals or Destroyers...Immortals give numbers, Destroyers give greater range, more shots, and more mobility.

    Both have their uses.

Warriors are crap. If you are going to bring them, bring them in units of 12+ so they are harder to shoot away.

Res Lords are not needed in a T5 Necron army.

A C'Tan (meaning, the Deceiver) is better. However, it's been my experience that killing C'Tan is easy enough since you can pretty much always get shots on them. That said, they do play havoc with CC armies. Horde CC armies (cough Orks) will own you though.

I'll post what I think is the Necron army of the future.

    One I'm actually afraid of.
