Hello, I used to be an avid 40k ork player. I used to build a GT ork army every year for each of the new army lists as they came out. For years I haven't played but with 5th edition I was planning to make up an ork force so I can play tournaments and such.

So after reading up all the rules, I have gone through all 5 of my ork armies and compiled an inventory of what figures I have for LEGAL 5th edition based upon the codex. I would really like some advice or some impressions on the 5th edition with the ork codex.

Question 1 - NOBS in boy mobs: Between 'directing attacks' on slow orks in 3rd Edition and 'Hidden Powerfists' of 4th edition, Are Powerklaws back? Is it 50/50 or should I burn every Nob without a powerklaw? (or turn them into flash gitz) I have enough models to have Nobs with and without for each squad.
Question 2 - Meks: Plasma rifles became Kustom megablastas between 2nd and 3rd. I see the new LOOTAZ models appear as if it is basically a Plasmarifle. If I remove the burnas and put Plasmarifles would I be ok? I haven't quite understood what role those MEKs are supposed to serve in the unit. Is there any advice on thier function?
question 3 - Lootas: Deffguns right? So Lootaz are now like a heavy weapon IA unit. So I basically need to model up some Dakka using just about any shooty bit I can muster? What role do the Meks play in that unit? It seems like a Loota to a mek is a 'downgrade'.
Question 4 - Bikes: Bikers or NOB bikers? I don't think I am going to run Kult of Speed due to my high model count but I could if I felt like it. I will probably not get more than 1 squad of bikes. So Should I leave them as NOBs or make them regular boyz (the paintjob is bad so they can be scrapped I may use the torsos for flash gitz)
Question 5 - Jetbikes: The rules souned like these got a large overhaul. I am considering using them for bombing runs. I am unsure about the buzzsaw stuff. Any input? any good? We will get 3 more in the cheap boxed set so I was considering it.
Question 6 - Old models with no home:
*Looted Basilisk - Can he be used for the new loota model? I assume so.
*Looted Rhinos - Can they be used as trukks with the covered tops?
*Gorkamorak trukks - They are skateboards for Mega armor. Are people gonna cry megacheese in the new True LOS by having tiny little flat truks that can barley hold 3 models? I liked them because they were easy to transport and look uniform and custom. And I had a ton of them because of gorka morka. The new truk is awesome, but it is huge compared to mine and hard to transport with all the gubbins on it.
Question 7 - Trukks: Is Ork ramming the new 'thang'? I never really bothered with vehicle upgrades before, is it now worth having the boarding play to hit a vehicle with a powerklaw and a wrecking ball to hit it with a str9 hit and then grabber to keep it immobile?

Question 1: if you pay for a nob upgrade in a squad, it should have a powerklaw. the only nobs without powerklaws should be nob bikers, or if you want, nob mobs. (and even then some of them should have PK, big choppas suck, orks are going last pretty much all the time anyways)

Question 2: Meks are meant to follow dred mobs, fixing them. Only put them in burna boyz squads, and even then it sucks giving up another template that can be a power weapon for what is basicly the worse Plasma gun in the game. (1/3 chance of hitting, 5/6 chance of wounding a Meq with a hit, vs 1/6 chance of hot, 5/6 chance of not saving). The good news is that you can give rokkits or big shootas to them. I like the big shootas meks for burna boys (if i were to run them at all). Orks really want volume of fire to overcome the BS 2.

Question 3: Lootas are one of the best things in the book imho, any loota made into a mek is a waste. They make loota models, but basicly they are orks with looted heavy weapons from other armies. Cool conversion are possible because of this.

Question 4: bikers are really good, high volume of fire, twin linked, fast movement, always have cover, and boosted toughness. They cost quite a bit, but one large or a couple of small squads is great. Keep in mind morale if you dont have a biker warboss attached to them. they cost a fair amount for any army, and a squad of 10 costs way more than 30 boyz (and run away easier). Biker Nobs in 5th ed fully tooled out are one of the harder untis to kill i can think of. The entire squad can have different items, so you can do tricks with wounds to avoid killing guys. With a painboy in the squad they get feel no pain on top of being tough, always covered, multi wound models. The problem being is that the unit ends up costing a third of your points at 1500.

Question 5: deffkoptas are fun, they have the scout rule, which is nice in 5th ed. Dont ever count on using hit and run in 5th ed. the bombs aren't that effective. twin linked rokkits or big shootas are though. the buzzsaw IS nice though. i don't really like the unit that much, but i dont own enough to do much with them. You really need to take more than just a couple for them to do anything.

Question 6: Looted basilisk: good for looted wagon with boomgun. but its your choice if you even want to run that, the gun is very nice, but the rules and armour not so much.
Looted Rhino: good for hard top looted wagons. Trukks can't get hard tops.
Gorkamorka trukks: they are official ork trukks, if a bit old. if you have a belly aching opponent, they HE is the one being cheesy and unsporting. By making them small you can't shield your guys from shooting as much as the fact you can hide the trukks better.

Question 7: Boarding planks aren't that good, i don't have much use for the grabba. Wrecking ball is cool, but not likely to get its points back. The ram and armour are the only upgrades i take. Being able to tank shock (or ram) with fast throw away vehicles is nice. Battle wagons with deff rolla is the BEST way to ram/tank shock. The best thing about ork trukks is they cost very little for a fast transport. Dont spend too much on upgrades.
