Something seems a little off with the description for the BA Honor Guard. Reading the italicized rules at the top of the entry in their "codex", it looks like they are treated as a seperate unit from the IC that allows their purchase, in addition to not counting as a FO slot. If, on the other hand, they are not treated as a seperate unit from the IC in question (allowing the IC to not have to be deployed or moved with them), then WTF is that line refering to?

They're an hq unit. They take up no FoC slot. You can only have one per each IC you have.

Primarily this was important in 4th ed, where there were alternating deployments, where you placed heavy support, then they placed HS, ect. You'd place these as an HQ choice.

Actually what it means for you in 5E is this isn't a retinue.

So the IC can be picked out, even if joined to his honor guard.

Correct. In HTH.

IC's can't join units and be picked out via shooting, except with abilities that say so (like Mind War, Mind Worm, Vindicare Assassin...) or if you hit enough times to hit him too, of course.

It's important to note that the BA honor guard is NOT an IC retinue, its a 5 man veteran squad with access to different upgrades.

yes it heans dante will be depolyed WITHOUT hg in some case.
Bugger lucky my troops have jump packs.

I tend to treat them as one squad for all but close combat and noone has worried about it YET.

Why would he be deployed without them?

Because they are NOT a retinue, they are a separate 5 man squad. BA don't have retinues in the codex.

I understand that much Red_Lives, but again, why would he not be able to be deployed with them?

None of the missions or deployments in the BRB would prevent it.

noone said he can't deploy with him, after all Dante IS an IC. But i can think of several reasons he wouldn't WANT to deploy with them. And Dawn-of war- deployment stops it BTW.

I thought you'd bring up Dawn of War. Actually, it doesn't. It says you MAY deploy an HQ and 2 Troops. So just leave Dante off the board and move him on first turn with the honor guard...or leave him and the squad in reserves and DS em in.
