Looking for some thoughts on what to bring in an Eldar army.

As some of you might know I'm planning out an army right now in the P&M Blogs. I've finally picked out the color scheme I want to go with (Go Go Saim-Hann).

I don't know a ton about the Army. I don't even own the codex just yet (next purchase!). But I'm trying to get a loose idea of what my army might look like as I move forward.

Thinking realistically I want to start off small and work my way to the tournie size. This way, as I build and paint units, I add them to my force and try out the new point level. I'm thinking of it as leveling up >.>...I learn the ins and outs of my units a little better this way and really get a feel for what each is good at before I get to tournie size.

A few wants in my lists as I move forward though:

Striking Scorpions - I absolutely LOVE the models. As such, they WILL be a unit in all of my lists as I move forward.
Falcon Grav Tank - The only unit I own at the moment. I like the tanks, always have. And the versatility offered has always intrigued me. Now is my chance to try em out.
Farseer - With my marines I never ran a librarian, so I've never had the chance to play with psykers much.

Goals to meet with the list:
Mobility - I'm playing a Saim Hann army, I want to be able to get where I want and quickly.
Objective mission viable - Here is where speed and balance come into question
Versatility - A well rounded weapon selection to help deal with anything I might face. I don't plan on buying outside of my army list to meet threats.

Any thoughts on what might make a solid 500 and 1000 point list for now? And for the future 1500 and then 1750 for the tournie scene?

Any help is greatly appreciated. And bear with me if I don't know where you're coming from, this is my first real army outside of marines >.>...

Hiya,

Saim-Hann is a very beautiful army once it's all painted. They use bright red with black stripes and that has always caught my eye. Most Saim-Hann armies used alot of Jetbikes since they are so cheap and count as a troop choice. With the release of 5th, and troops being the only units that can hold objectives, this creates a slight problem.

Jetbikes are not great. T4 with a 3+ save is not very solid conserdering they only have a 12" S4 assault 2, twin-linked weapon with a BS of 3 anyway. So they hit, and wound on 4's and only at 12". Makes they weak to small arms fire since a squad of Marines can pump out as many shots as them, and score more wounds due to lower toughness.

If you wanted a full blown Saim-Hann army that follows fluff, I would say look into Prism/Falcons, Vypers, and several squads of Jetbikes, like 4-5 in each unit. Take the Autarch on a Jetbike, and a Farseer if you have the points.

I used a draw tactic for my Saim-Hann. Prisms would take out larger units, linking with another Prism. Vypers would take Scatter Lasers to deal with horde armies, or just mass marines. I would use both my Vypers, and Prisms to whittle the units down, then move my Jetbikes in for clean up. This would weaken the "return" fire on them. Also, given the Vypers can move 12" and fire 36", this would force the other player to come to me. My Vypers would just stay on one side of the board and move 12" forward, and 12" back the next turn.

Hope this helps. I'm having problems finding lists for 5th with my Eldar.. Maybe we could figure this out together.

Sometimes you just have to let em' go...

Amen to that. It is surprising to me how much a few little tweaks have really changed the way Eldar play. I think that when you are used to playing a force with great Elites and then suddenly need to have lots of Troops, it rewrites all the rules. I am still getting over not having Craftworld Biel-Tan (Aspect Warriors as Troop choices).

This is what I recommended for a 1000 point force. I think Jetbikes can be good if they duck-and-move; plus with Saim-Hann it is almost a requirement to have lots of bikes. Silver, what do you think?

Farseer with Doom, Runes of Warding, Singing Spear on Jetbike
3 Guardians on Jetbike
2 x 7 Guardians on Jetbike with 2 Shuriken Cannons plus Warlock with Destructor
5 Striking Scorpions plus Exarch with Biting Blade and Stalker
Falcon with HF/SS and Shuriken Cannon
Vyper with Missile Launcher

The House that Peterbilt

Mech seems to be a good way to go with Eldar in 5ed. If terrain is up to date for 5ed where you game, jetbikes can do well with their JSJ attacks with the shuriken cannon. Otherwise you may want to pass on them.

Also if using scorpions in saim hann they probably should be in a serpent and the outflank manuever they can pull will be fun and useful.

I think a solid list rough list would be
Farseer on Jetbike
1-2 10 man Scorpion on Waveserpent
6 man unit for the Falcon (firedragons, harlies or banshees)
2 troop units in waveserpents
Falcon

Add to that as needed or desired
Autarch (nice for reserve rolls, can be cheap and tucked into a troop unit)
Unit of Jetbike Warlocks (can be a very resilient unit and great for contesting)
More tanks (falcons/prism/serpents)

snoogums: "Just because something is not relavant doesn't mean it goes away completely."

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."
