Afternoon all.
I have just purchased a couple of Falcons and am considering putting chin-mounted Shuriken Cannons on them. The conversion shouldn't be too much of an issue; I'm ok at that.
The thing I'm worried about is my mate says that a SC is an offensive weapon, and that I can't fire it after moving my full distance.
Now I thought that the SC was a defensive weapon. It's S6 right? Doesn't that make it defensive? Or am I reading it wrong?

I am also planning on replacing my Falcon's SL with one too, so please can someone confirm this either way before the glue dries
My army is kinda missing some so I thought they would add some well-deserved anti-infantry fire.

If not SC, then what else? Does anyone think SCs aren't worth it? I really do.

many thanks.

In 5th edition defensive weapons are now str 4 and less.

So shuriken catipults are defensive, but shuriken cannons, starcannons, and scatterlasers are now offensive weapons.

BGB (4ed) page 63: Defensive weapon = S6 or under
BRB (5ed) page 58: Defensive weapon = S4 or under

So under 4th Shuriken cannons were defensive weapons but are not any longer.

You can still move 6" and fire all weapons with eldar vehicles though so they may still be worth their points.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Ah I see. I am yet to get V5 BGB
I'm getting it tomorrow I reckon.

Thats a right kick in the nuts man. The whole point was to have that as a defensive.
@Webbe: Love the sentiment, but I can't shake the feeling that moving a Vyper 6" is a bit of a waste.

Saying that, I've got no real defensive option for my Falcon at all now though, eh?

You realize the Scatter Laser (if that's what you mean by SL) has more shots then a Shuriken Cannon right?

EDIT:

And if you leave the chin mounted Shuriken Catapults, they are defensive weapons, being S4. A falcon has two weapons on the turret. One of these is always the Pulse Laser, the other weapon is chosen by you, and then the chin mount under the cockpit is normally armed with Shuriken Catapults, that can be upgraded to a Shuriken Cannon.

<sarcasm>Yeah, I have a catapult under my falcon....<\sarcasm>

On the other hand, this makes the falcon cheaper, as you can just pack the cheapest weaponcombination and be done with it. No need for exxtra weapons...

Hell, go with a prism. They only have 1 weapon. That way you do not even have to think about it...

Keep in mind that the Vyper doesn't get the SMF rule until atleast 13" now at which point it cannot fire any weapons, so moving 6" isn't such a terrible thing.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Yeah yeah, so the ONLY defensive option is Shuricats? Sucks.

no ... missile launchers can be fired defensively

also Fire Prisms are quite good with Shurican Cannons on, as they can combine there fire, and stll have something to shoot with

How many defensive options do you want? With the 5th ed rules, alot of tanks lose out on defensive weapons. There are only a handful that even get them anymore standard. Land Raider Crusaders, Rhinos....and Falcons, Wave Serpents, and Prisms..

Tau get NONE. IG tanks have to buy a heavy stubber upgrade to get one.

So quit your whining and look at the Shuri-cats as an advantage. And as someone else pointed out, EML can be fired defensively with plasma missiles as well.

I still use the SC even though I cant and most of the time don't shoot them. And I put them on everything. Faclons, Wave Serpents. Heres a trick for you. Snag the SC and put vectored engines on your craft. Fly them foward with what ever they have in them over 12 so they get a save. If they get immobilized you now have a S6 3 shot gun facing your enemy and they will waste time and shots taking that out while the rest of your force is able to head for objectives or what not.

The end is never really the end, its the start of something new.
