Hey all,

I am looking to make an Eldar strike force to get in some early casual play. The emphasis would be on some speed certainly. I would also dearly love to include Warp Spiders to some extent. I would think an Autarch is the way to go HQ wise.

However, I am open to suggestions... that is indeed why am I here.

thanks

Matt

Well with the guidelines of speed and warp spiders, there is still a lot you can do. At low point values you have to initially focus on troops and HQ. If its speed you want, you got 2 choices for troops, jetbikes and dire avengers in a wave serpent. In low point games, the avengers are going to suck up a large portion of your points (200-275 depending). Bike squads can be had for as low as 76 points (3 bikes with one cannon) but its probably best to beef up the squad a little past that... maybe include a warlock.

As far as HQ goes, there are several ways to go... well, ok, there are a couple. The Avatar is right out since he's just not fast enough to keep up with a high speed eldar army so you can skip him. So you are down to a farseer and an Autarch. Both of them can be placed on a jet bike so they can keep up with your fast units (and hide in them). Don't forget that being on a jetbike doesn't prohibit you from joining a regular infantry squad if you're within 2" of it. A farseer with fortune or guide could be used to bump up the power of your other units. An autarch is really only useful for hand to hand and giving you a bonus to reserve rolls. Since you don't have any hand to hand units, it would appear that the farseer would be your best option there.

If you want to include warp spiders, you can, but I have found them to be kind of a lack luster unit. They have lots of high strength shooting, but the lack of AP and short range means that their effectiveness is limited. Combine this with their utter lack of hand to hand ability and high point cost and I find that they just do hold up against other units that I could be taking. On the other hand if you really want to put them in your army, then by all means do so. The game is about having fun and sometimes that's about playing with the units you like rather than the ones that are the most effective.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.
