I played some games of 40k today again and the most phun thing i encountered was that fleeing troops can still score/contest.
My gaunts rentered on the table because they got shot to pieces and had the WN rule. They weren't in range of a synapse critter, so in a desperate attempt to reclaim my objective i failed my LD test (turn after the re-entered) for instinctive behaviour. But running towards the nearest synapse made them run into my objective. It was turn six and the game ended.
I looked up if fleeing troops could score, and we couldnt find it anywhere. So it became a draw, both possesing 1 objective.

The battle after it was also very much phun against troop heavy IG, no tanks, i controlled 3 objectives and wiped out 80% of his army and he just shot a few gaunts and did 1 or 2 wounds to a a fex and one tyrant.

It's on page 90:
"In standard missions, as soon as the game ends and before working out victory conditions, all units that are falling back are removed and count as destroyed."

So I'm not too familiar with the latest version of instinctive behavior, but if the unit was "falling back" you should have removed them as soon as the game ended. So they wouldn't have counted as being within 3" of the objective in order to score.

Instinctive behaviour units FLEE towards the nearest synapse.

The key word is FLEE.

Hope that helps.

i.e. go with what Flavius said and you'll be fine.
