Okay, I've obviously been going to start an army for 5th ed... have always wanted to collect orks. Obvious choice? No.

I've always wanted to collect Eldar for at least as long. Skimmers may not be what they were... but what I'm basically thinking is that I'll go a pick up two falcons and a prism when I get paid and start from there. One unit of harles is almost necessary, and despite the fact I always wanted a scorpion themed army, a unit of Banshees in a transport always caused trouble for me in the past and I wanted to give that a try.

Guardians still smell pretty badly for their points value (RANGE), unless they're transported, so Avengers look nice...
On that note, can a standard guardian squad w/weapon platform use a transport or just a Storm squad? I haven't found anything yet regarding if the platform takes up space, how much, etc.

I enjoy mobility, and holo-fields are just too good for me to look past. Any feedback regarding Eldar lists in general would be appreciated.

Eldar are a fun army to play. I've had a smallish force since about mid 3rd edition. Skimmer aren't what they used to be, but they're not really THAT bad. Sure, you can pen them if they move, but they're still fun! Haha. I've found that if you're gonna run one Prism, you might wanna run two. They seem to work better in pairs. I haven't bought anything since the new codex came out, but Harlies are pretty sweet. Guardians have always had a spot in my heart. I'm not sure why, but I don't mind them. If they've got a weapon platform, they can't have a transport. That's all.

Later

I actually have a full body tattoo, but it's of an invisibility cloak, so you can't see it.

Wasn't familiar with previous eldar dex, but current states that you have to have a heavy wepon platform in a 'defender' type squad, whereas storm squad can't have it. What use are these 12" bb guns? I'd rather have rapid fire/24" - I wouldn't be charging with them ideally. Just like how no one fired twice with pistols, because you usually wanted to charge in... Will have to think about his one.

Mech Eldar armies are alive and kickin'. Take Dire Avengers instead of Guardians (even a platform can be mounted in a Serpent). Guardians are a good and cheap choice for a footslogging Eldar army with Eldrad and an Avatar.

Alright, first list I'm going to playtest soon. I have a very old Maugan Ra model through circumstance... this idea has some dangerous mobile elements around a solid shooty block... it's my style of play, and the twin prisms will be fun. The 12" catapults still look like absolute rubbish to me. If I can't use the Reapers effectively I'm going to try a Farseer something. Dropping the reapers will make a big points difference...

1753pts. need to shave.

Phoenix Lord Maugan Ra 195

8 Howling Banshees - Exarch, Mirrorswords 150
Wave Serpent - Linked Shuriken Catapults, Linked Shuriken Cannon 100

10 Guardians - Shuriken Cats, Platform w/Missile Launcher (20) 110

10 Guardians - Shuriken Cats, Platform w/Missile Launcher (20) 110

10 Dire Avengers - Avenger Shuriken Catapults 120

10 Dire Avengers - Avenger Shuriken Catapults 120

3 Vypers - Scatter Lasers 180

7 Warp Spiders - Exarch, Surprise Assault, Spinneret Rifle 181

Fire Prism Alpha - Prism Cannon, Linked Shuriken Catapults, Holo-Fields 150

Fire Prism Beta - Prism Cannon, Linked Shuriken Catapults, Holo-Fields 150

5 Dark Reapers - Exarch (12), Crack Shot (10), Tempest Launcher (20) 187

A few mistakes with this list but over all not bad.
First off i would loose at least one guardian squad and upgrade the dire avengers with exarchs and twin shurikans. Also a 10 man squad with a missle launcher is 100 points.

The Wave Serpeant needs to have spirit stones. If it cant move it cant do a last second dive bomb into an enemy tank. This tactic is perfect for non firing serpeants. And with the new rules you can crash into a land raider doing a strength 9 hit against it. Although it does a strength 11 hit on the wave serpent. This isnt bad though because if your serpent blows up the banshees just need to pass a leadership test and they can still fleet away behind cover.

Also your points for you reapers are wrong. 4 reapers with exarch, tempest, and crack shot costs 182.

I find that in my mech Eldar, Storm Guardians are where it's at. Especially in this new edition of the rules. You take storm guardians with two flamers and a warlock with destructor and jam them into a serpent, they can decimate things like squads of marines. They can even hold their own in CC. That extra attack seems to keep them alive at least until something more powerful can arrive...like the banshee wagon.

When taking fire prisms, take them in pairs. The tactic that I have found the most effective is hiding one, and moving the other around since the linking option has unlimited range, just make sure that they can see each other.

i would take out the warp spiders and add an exarch to the avengers with bladestorm. thirty shots in one turn is great against anything. i would also add a farseer with doom, guide to attach to either banshees or avengers.
avengers are a great range attack unit and will hold its own against mech units in combat.id keep the reapers, eldar is so much fun to play enjoy

Well, a Serpent can ram at S 10, move at least 21'' (7), tank (1), AV (2).
On the other hand, S can never get over 10. And a Serpent has an energy field (S 8).

Tau and IG are commonplace where I play, making the Avengers looks less and less great. I still think two ten-mans would be worth it.. I do want to try a Farseer before I go and get too many models - it's just that I want Fortune and Doom at the same time, but no-way want two seers. Fortune is neccessary for the Warlock guard... Farseer/Doom/Retinue/Bikes is very attractive, but surviving that one round between casting Forune and then Doom... basically I don't know what's worth more, and if I'd realistically use both. I'll definitely have to try the two flamers - haven't done so in 5th yet and it's a promising concept.

I've always liked my wolf scouts and skaven gutter runners - in other words, powerful disrupting attacks that come out of nowhere... and occasionally go wrong. The Warp Spiders with surprise assault are going to be great for snaring battlesuits and mobile high Ts in general, and the Spinneret rifle will help me to make gravy out of any rear armour I find myself facing. Also broadsides.

Current thinking - drop reapers/ra, drop a guardian squad, upgrade Avengers and put other guardian unit up as a templatey storm squad. Don't know if a farseer on bike w/ eight man retinue will fit in there... heh. Actually, one attack sucks balls. If it weren't for powers, the warlocks would be shining spears, but they hurt my points.

Not true. You can still take a transport. Nothing in the rules says you can't, and in all respects the Platform is treated as a marker anyways.

Catch me if you can.

The (can't remember) box set is ten bikes and a couple vypers for $180AU. I already have two, and another on the order for the Farseer conversion. You basically get the vypers for free, which is quite good.

Two prisms would be very, very worth it against marines... but only as good as a LRBT. I needed the Falcon because the Fire dragons need transport, and I need three more s8 shots more than I need another wave serpent.

Why is everyone heading towards guardians on jetbikes? they die very fast from my experiences with them and with so few in squads they are a waste of time, IMHO
