Hi Peeps

I have an army here that is just full of annoying stuff. I'd like to see what those out there have ideas on beating this army. Post up your army ideas for beating this ELDAR force.

HQ
Eldrad Ulthran

Avatar

ELITES
Harlequins x7 w. shadowseer and HK on all models (HK = Harlequin's Kiss)
(Shadowseer w. Veil of Tears)

FireDragons x5

TROOPS
Guardian Squad x10 w. weapon platform (either BL, ML or starC)
Guardian Squad x10 w. weapon platform (either BL, ML or starC)

HEAVY SUPPORT
Fire Prism - star engines, holo-fields, vectored engines
-PRISM CANNON & Shuriken Catacpults*update*

Falcon Grav Tank - star engines, holo-fields, vectored engines
-Brigth Lance & Shuriken Catapults *update*

Wraith Lord w. brightlance, missile launcher

Its just so annoying playing against this when your opponent is only out to WIN! and please don't post something along the lines of "DON'T PLAY AGAINST THEM" its kinda hard to when there is only a certain amount playing the game around here.

Thanks in advance Cobs

How many points is this?

1) Shoot the Falcon down.
Fire Dragons don't do squat then.

2) Fire heavy bolters at the guardians. Yes, you are fearlessly dead. Good job.

3) Stick all of your units interlocking so any Harlequin charge eats 30-40 guys. Harlies die.

4) Ignore Avatar until Fire Prism and Falcon are dead.
Kill Fire Prism after Falcon. Do both on first turn, get a prize.
If they zoom on from the table, melta the Falcon dead and zap the Prism with lascannons.

5) Laugh at opponent.

6) Bring a psychic hood.

7) Kill Avatar and Wraithlord.

8) Kill Eldrad.

9) Laugh again.

10) Win.

What he said ^

There are many ways to beat such an army, remove their mobile firepower first... then just dance around the rest picking them off.

Eldar are a very fragile army, unless played well of course... which means identifying their center of gravity and using it to its utmost to support each unit... sadly not enough people know how to do this with such an unforgiving force. Too many MEQ armies out there is probably the cause of this rampant train of thoght methinks.

What do you mean by ideas? How to kill those armies?

Must be a new player...read around the internets.

Lots of info on how to kill stuff.

If you give us an army list, we can try to help you but really learning for yourself is best.

And this belongs in the tactics forum, btw.

not new to this i have been playing for a while yet not much time due to work now. I didn't really ask for TACTICS now did I.. it was more along the lines of an army list to beat the Eldar army stated above.

I can give you a list of what I have atm and i have read around this site btw. not wise to assume things about people mate.
Must be a new player

I'm only asking question for myself and some other people I know since they won't. Also thank you for the info you have already given me.

thanking you cobs

Which army do you play, first of all?

If we know what force(s) you play, it'll be easier for us to help you.

But generically (IE for any army), just like Stelek said, shoot down his Falcon and Fire Prism as quickly as possible. His guys (especially the Fire Dragons and Harlies) walking means you can shoot at them before they get to you, most likely wiping them out in a turn.

Also, the Wraithlord will be an annoyance at all times, so if you can, take it out fast.

Ignore the Avatar until it gets too close, or until it becomes the most important thing to shoot at.

If you want to keep your vehicles alive (which could win you the game), you need to kill his 20 Guardians after taking out his vehicles and Wraithlord. The WL, vehicles and Guardians seem to be his only source of anti-tank fire (of course the Fire Dragons are too, but they should be dead in the first or second turn anyways, and won't be going anywhere without a transport.)

After the anti-tank units are gone (along with his only scoring units!) your tanks are free to rule the battle. Just don't get charged by the Avatar!

Well, I'd take two large Crusader squads with power fist and melta, accompanied by EC and one cheap Reclusiarch.
Take two or three Predators for fire support. The rest is personal preference.
The Crusaders should make it to the Eldar front ranks hitting hard, while the fire support units remove serious threats (or silencing guns).

Are you talking about dropping the dread's and pumping the crusader squads up to 20 man strength and adding a 3rd tank?

Not only that but make it 3 20 man crusader squads. This Eldar army you are facing is very low on volume of fire. You should be able to march right up to him and overwhelm him with marines in close combat. However, Do not take the melta guns, take the plasma. The avatar is immune to melta.

There are a couple of ways you can deal with this army. You can either go horde or shooty.

If you go shooty, take some snipers to deal with the dreadnaught and the avatar (wow, scouts could be useful). Just make sure you don't deploy them in a forward position. Keep them back in your deployment zone and use their range. Then you can take a whirl wind or two. They'll eat the guardians for breakfast and you can lob templates at anything that's near the quins and hope the scatter lands the template on them. Or you can try lobbing mind fields, that would be a lot of fun for them to run though. Other than that, heavy bolter for the guardians and las cannons for the tanks. Devistators work great, particularly if you use a codex that allows you to combat squad them.

The other route would be to go horde. The enemy doen't appear to have much in the way of anti horde ability. If you start walking over with 40-60 guys, he's going to have problems dealing with them all. Qunis do some damage, but only kill 6 marines on the charge (on average). If you got 14 marines swinging back, over the long run, you win that fight. If you can manage to get a second squad in the fight, so much the better. Power fists should do a number on both the dreadnaught and the avatar so pack in as many as you can, particularly on models that are not independent characters (and thus can't be singled out). You can also drag down the avatar by weight of numbers. On average, a 20 man marine squad will kill the avatar on round 4 of combat and only lose 6 or 7 guys doing it.
