Defending Guardian Defender

I have a question and wondering if someone with more experience can help me out.
I play with a seercouncil on foot and 5 dragons in serpent with vectored engines. What I am thinking about is if I should remove the dragons (perhaps all together) and put the council in the serpent. If I change to star engines and try to dive for enemy tanks/heavy threats I don't care if the thing blows up since the council (with fortune) will survive. The council assaults a tank and get lots of attacks (around 20) with s 9 agains the side with the lowest AV. After that they can still fight counterattack units and thanks to their soaking (fortune) they will hold up the enemy till my footslogging soldiers get there.
What 'ya think?

You should run a bike council instead.

Either way you do it, the seer council is going to be expensive when compared to the dragons. On the other hand, they will survive a lot more punishment than the "fire and forget" dragons will. In the end, it is a viable tactic to use (the wave serpent or the bike version).

I been running a Seer Council on Bikes for a long time. I really like the unit. In 5th the Seer Council on bikes is definitely better then the Seer Council on foot. 3+ armor save/4+ invulnerable and 4 toughness for the bike seer council versus 4+ invulnerable and 3 toughness for the foot council makes the bike council much better. The bike council is more expensive both pointwise and moneywise to convert.
I did run the foot council in 3rd edition but things were different then. The increased survivability of the Jetbike council makes it better.
You might want to mount fire dragoons in a falcon to insure they get there.
The foot seer council works find in a wave serpent because you can cast fortune on the wave serpent for it to have a rerollable 4+ cover save if moving fast.

Give the Farseer a spear and attach an Autarch with fusion gun. They should be able to pop a tank when they disembark.

That is certainly one way to add some points to an otherwise expensive unit. Don't settle for just one IC in your squad, put 2 in. This squad would be even better if you put Yriel in it instead of a normal autarch.

If you have a foot seer council, you really should get Yriel!

I made the same experience yesterday, when my fortuned Council on foot was charged by an Assault Marine squad led by a Chaplain.
I lost the Farseer early due to a power fist attack and the Warlock got decimated (lost 3 when the Predator exploded that they shot).
After all, the Autarch was the last one standing against 5 Assault Marines. Yriel would have made the difference.

At another board, they talked about an Uber Council led Eldrad and Yriel mounted in a Serpent.

There's nothing not scary about being charged by a full assault squad led by a Chaplain. I give them Furious Charge with trait... new codex will probably disappoint me.
Fortune is brilliant, but wounds get through... play it a bit safer in 5th ed, because anyone can get wounded, and any Eldar git can get IK'd.

@Wuestenfux, that uber council is amazing. Just remember to send Yriel on his merry way if he can charge a MEQ unit on his own. The special attack along with doom is nearly a guarranteed unit killer.
@Arctick_firangi, You are a Mauleed? How did you get to be a Mauleed?

The counter-strike rule helps to get all member of the enemy squad under the template. If there is no HQ (multi-wound model) in the squad, it should be gone for good.
