Well now, I tossed together this list a little while back, mostly based on the
visual style it would have once it's completed and what models I wanted to
get a hold of first. Obivous problems are a seriously low model count, and
a distinct lack of long-range firepower. This is hopefully countered by
mobility, and a decent amount of mid- to short range firepower.

Grenadier unit #1
- 5x Storm Troopers = 50
- 2 Plasma guns = 20
- Centaur w/EA = 50
=120

Grenadier unit #2
- 5x Storm Troopers = 50
- 2 Plasma guns = 20
- Centaur w/EA = 50
=120

Hardened Vets #1
- Veteran Sergeant = 13
- 5x Veterans = 40
- 2x Melta guns = 20
- 1x Flamer = 6
= 79

Hardened Vets #2
- Veteran Sergeant = 13
- 5x Veterans = 40
- 2x Melta guns = 20
- 1x Flamer = 6
= 79

Models: 22
Points: 398

Weapons:
- 4 plasma guns, 6 Hellguns, 2 heavy stubbers, 4 meltaguns, 2x flamers, 6 lasguns

Doctrines:
Veterans (aka "Dem though lads")
Grenadiers (aka "Da Revolutionariz!")
Drop Troops (aka "Sneaky ambushin' gitz!") - To make the veterans more versitile

Possible additional doctrines for games beyond 400 points:
Close-order drill (aka "Huddle up, ladz!") - added when the force goes beyond 400 points and starts using regular squads
Special Weapon Squads (aka "Da Boomboyz!") - For the great fun that is demo charges
Cameoline (aka "'Stay low ladz!"/"Those grots are tiny!")

It's just such an odd concept, really. I'm sort of speechless about it 'til I'd see it done.

Grenadier seem a bit 'hard' for Grots.
(*cough* Ratling snipers *cough cough*)
I'm not seeing more than 3s for a grot stat-line
and definitely not a 4+ armor save, except for the most-lite grots evar,
maybe something that looks like the old Squat weeble-wobble exo-suits

Your just going to find to many armies at this point total with 36" plus range weapons. They are either going to be able to jump out and hit and or fall back. Another thing is to have just one vehicle or run them in a congo so that at least one makes the front line. Drop one of the vet squads and up the body count in one of the other units. That way one unit of five is the front running and the back runner is ten men in the vehicle.

Well the concept of Rebel Grotz stems from Gorkamorka, an old GW game now barely supported through specialist games.
You can read more about them at http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Rebel_Grots - as for inspirational pictures, these were
what sparked my interest for the subject: http://proiteus.deviantart.com/art/Grot-Rebel-Command-49150301

That is one of the major obstacles this concept faces, I agree. I'm still working out how to model it, test models will be in the
blog forums once all my bitz arrive in the mail. But I can guarantee you; there will be no exo-suits!

Surviving long enough to get in range with my own weapons is going to be a problem, I agree. Centaurs are 5-man transports, and as they are one of my favourite things about this list, they're staying. So not quite sure how I'd go about upping the numbers on the squads.

One thing that has been suggested is that I make on of the grenadier squads with meltas, and one of the veterans with plasmas. Looking into that now, new list will come once I have had more time to think about it.

Other suggestions?

*le bump*

Project is moving along modelwise, finally acquired all the bitz needed and such. Well, except
for the centaurs, who will have to wait a couple of more weeks.

Anyone have any additional advice for this list?

The Revolution has started its own P&M blog at http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/217529.page !

Now with my first 400 points of models set (except the two centaurs who're still up for order), I'm looking for advice on how to
expand the force to 1000 points and beyond.

Models I have available are a Leman Russ (with or without heavy bolter sponsons), an additional Exterminator turret (TL Autocannons),
and what will soon be a custom-made basilisk.

Now this next sentence might seem a contradictory, with me choosing to play IG; but I'm not really interested in painting hundreds of guardsgrotz.
This is part of the reason I've chosen to go with the 'Grenadiers' doctrine to cover my troop choices. At the most, I'd consider 2x infantry platoons
and the obligatory HQ Command Squad (55 infantrygrotz).

Units I've pondered including are:
- Special weapon squads
- an additional Hardened Veteran Squad
- up to two Infantry platoons
- 2x hellhounds
- Leman Russes

Any help you dakkaites can give me in upping the list would be greatly appriciated

I'm not sure how competative this list is planned to be, but squads of five strom..err..grot-troops don't last very long at all. imho you'd be bet off expanding to squads of 7-10.
as for what you're debating adding-

Special Weapon squads are not the greatest idea in my mind, because they are so fragile for their cost. Great choice if you're serious about drop troops.

Hvets are a great choice, and are very worth their point cost in every way.

Infantry Platoon- An infantry platoon will give you access to 3+ heavy weapons in your force. This is something that every guard-er...Grot player needs. However they do yeild alot of Kill points.

Hellhounds are great tanks- they kill everything but vehicles (even power armour can fall to a hellhound), and stay fairly mobile.

Leman Russ- Depends what purpose you're going for. In terms of the battle cannon- it has problems with giving cover saves away. The demolisher however- is Imho a better vehicle. I would take a demolisher with 3 H.bolters. This is a solid anti- hoard base, that is quite hard to kill for it's point cost. It also gives a great punch vs. that land raider every marine player and their brother will be putting in your face. problem- mobility.

Depending on how your cash holds out - got a line on those second edition autogun greenkrauts? classic sculpts those - what about doing 'em as mortar infantry/mortar command squads and conscripts? From a fluff perspective the Last Chancers/Sisters list would be tough to justify IMHO but simultaneously you want to be able to have fun playing the list according to GW rules, unless you're saying "stuff 40k if they're going to be using KPs" and deciding to go with some other ruleset. (honestly probably this is your best bet for having fun with your pieces after you finish converting and painting them) Another thought - what about just playing them as Orks?

When soldiers think, it's called routing.
