My friend is under the impression that you don't get any kind of cover save from a blast or template. I know you don't with template but what about blasts large blasts and ordinance.

After serving in a 'big gunz' regiment Grots often loose their hearing and have to resort to a rudimentary system of sign language. This is rarely successful as there are only so many signs a Grot can carry.

you get a cover save from ordinance and blasts if the target is in cover. you determine cover just like any other weapon, by checking the line of sight. And you are correct, flamers (template weapons) negate cover saves. Pg 30 of the fifth edition rulebook explains blasts, and says nothing about negating cover saves, while pg 29, where templates are explained, specifically states that cover is negated. Hope that helps.

The only exception is Indirect fire or Grange weapons. They are resolved from the hole in the template.

Though if the target unit is standing in Area Terrain they receive their cover save even when hit by Barrage weapons.

You still get cover saves from Barrage weapons. However, you determine the direction of fire differently.

Only Template weapons automatically ignore cover. Other weapons must have their own special rules to do so.
