I was interested in starting an Eldar Windrider host. I already know what to do for my troops and fast attack... that's a no brainer. But I didn't know what to do for my elites. I didn't like the idea of units on foot except for harlequins. Fluff wise they would be a nice fit but would they be useful in a fast army? Also I was thinking of using 3 Fire Prisms as my heavys. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advanced.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

In termas of backgrounds for a Windrider host you would likely be better off with Fire Dragons and Howling Banshees for elites, because they are aspects and therefore part of the craftworld army. Harlies are an external force. Fire Dragons also deal with stuff the rest of the army has trouble with, and your jetbikes/warlocks dont negate saves so Banshees have a role.

If you want Harlies take Falcons to ride in, this cuts out your three Fire Prism list. Aspect warriors can take Falcons or Wave Serpents.

I dont consider Fast Attack a 'no brainer', I am torn between good choices.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

5th ed makes this a really neat list to play.

It opens up options previously not possible. Take for instance a DA squad mounted in a waveserpent. Fairly fluffy for the list. if you find that you really do want to take harlies, now you can take a full squad of them and mount them in the waveserpent instead of the DA's riding in it.

I am leaning more towards prisms as HS more than any other option. 2 would be good. The third could be really anything fun.

FA slots I agree with orlanth on. its a hard decision to make. Everything besides warp spiders are good, and even they aren't bad. I personally find a full squad of shining spears not only really fluffy, but a really good unit to knock out tough stuff with.

While I know bikes are the obvious troops choice, I think other options such as DA should be explored. Again in a serpent. Wraithguard make an implacable scoring unit to nail down an objective and plant their flag on stating "That belongs to me" in no uncertain terms. Expensive, but no doubt effective.

Would be interesting to field three Fire Prisms.
I ran two in my playtests. In one game I rolled absolutely bad and the template always scattered wide, no damage at all. Sometimes it can be difficult to hit a Rhino-pattern tank.
After four games, they killed less than 10 Marines and no tank, lol. But I won two games (BT, Chaos) and two came out on par (BT, 13th Co).

What points level are you playing at?

I been playing mech eldar for quite some time. These are my observations with 5th.

The jetbike seer council is still just as good as it used to be but still very expensive.

Jetbike Squadrons don't survive as long with the true line of sight before you could easily hide small groups like 3 or 4. They still are decent to take 1 or two squads for hiding in the back and then turbo boasting to claim objectives late game. large squads are difficult to hide.

The Dire Avenger Squads in Wave Serpents are pretty good. They put out some pretty good firepower where you need it with blade storm.

Fire Dragons in a Falcon or Wraith Guard in a Wave Serpent are good for anti tank. The Wraith Guard are more expensive but they are harder to kill and can actually kill a Monolith.

I tried Shining Spears and I find that the small squad is not as effective as it was in 4th and is fairly vulnerable.

Not really a fan of Vipers because of AV10 and open toped. Too fragile. They are alright if you take like squads of 1 with scatter laser though. Without skimmer moving fast though they are really vulnerable.

harlequins in a falcon are not as effective because you can not consolidate into another combat with your massacred move. So harlequins stand out there to get rapid fired after winning combat. Howling Bainshee's or Striking Scorpions with a better save might be preferable now.

Westernflux is right Fire Prisms are not as reliable for anti tank. It is difficult to hit Rhino sized tanks. Mine have worked well in my game against Orcs, not so well against Sisters of Battle and so so against Chaos. Against hordes the big pie plate is excellent. They follow the Mech Theme and do not need baby siting like Wraith Lords so I will stick with them for now.

Western Flux, lol. I drop the two Fire Prisms from my 2000 pt army and go back to two Falcons mounting Fire Dragons in them.
