I need help deciding on the army I'm going to take to Las Vegas GT. I've been to several and usually brought something different.

This year the choice is between Tyranids and Chaos Marines. I've finished painting both.

Before we get to the army composition, keep in mind I'm not a candidate to win the thing. I'm not that good a player. I paint more than I play. I usually finish in the top half. All I want is an army that is better than I am without some serious flaws.

Here's a rough breakdown of the armies:

Chaos Marines
- Sorcerer, Flying with Lash
- 16 Plague Marines (2x Plasma, Champ w/PF)
- 7 Plague Marines in Rhino (2x Melta, Champ w/PF)
- 7 Plague Marines in Rhino (2x Melta, Champ w/PF)
- 7 Raptors (2x Melta, Champ w/PW)
- 2 Oblierators
- Vindicator
- 5 Lesser Demons
- 5 Lesser Demons

Tyranids
- Brood Lord with 6 Genestealers (w/Flesh Hooks)
- 6 Warriors with Extended Carapace, Scytals and Rends
- 4 Warriors with Scytals, +1 Strenght and Devourers
- 8 Genestealers w/Scuttle, Extended Carapace and Feeder Tendrils
- 8 Genestealers w/Scuttle, Extended Carapace and Feeder Tendrils
- 8 Genestealers w/Scuttle, Extended Carapace and Feeder Tendrils
- 10 Spinegaunts
- 10 Spinegaunts
- 10 Spinegaunts w/o Number
- Gunfex
- Gunfex

I know the Chaos Army tools in real close to 1750 points. The Tyranid army is close, but I have more painted and can move things around if needed. The Chaos army also fits in one case.

Let me know which you think I should take.

The Nids look better - although I'd drop all those Feeder Tendrils. Put it on the Brood Lord and mebbe a Lictor: they only have to be near the unit to get it.

Both lists have serious issues.

The primary for both is a lack of focus.

The Chaos army has a fast attack element, a very small number of vehicles, and unless the tanks drive up to you; pretty much no way to kill tanks at range.

The Tyranid army is half scuttle, half warrior, half gaunts...wait a minute, that's three halves! You are essentially starting with 30 gaunts, some warriors, and 2 fexes on the board.

Armies at the LVGT will be tooled to take down 30+ wounds of MC and 4 Land Raiders. So you survive battle with those armies how?

Lesser Daemons suck. I'd replace them with 2 Obliterators. Then the army should be fine taking it to the GT.

Dammit wuestenfux stop telling the new guys that lesser demons suck. Next you'll be telling them demon armies suck too, and where will we be?

My DH need demons to feel better about themselves at the GT!

Hey Stelek, 10 Lesser Daemons more or less don't matter. You have to take on the PM Rhino squads vs RCastroNovo.

PM Rhino squads don't scare me.

PM are anvil units. They only kill you if you get close to 'em.

Shoot the rhino out, kill everything else, deal with the PM after.

Right.
Shoot the rhino out, kill everything else, deal with the PM after.

Popping the Rhinos slows them severely down and gives easy kill points.
Killing everything else. Wait, Vindicator (if you want to get close), Lesser Daemons, and the DP are the first targets, right?
Obliterators in 4+ cover are lascannon fodder.

I'd kill the rhinos, oblits, raptors and the vindi...in that order. Possibly first turn.

Don't see a demon prince to kill.

Sorry, its a Sorcerer only.

Well, the Raptors can hide behind the Rhino pattern tanks. But after the Rhinos are gone, there are no more moving hills they can hide behind.

They can hide behind the vindi.

It can rush forward 12", they can jump behind it...

WAIT A DAMN MINUTE THAT'S STUPID!

You and your bright ideas!

Be glad if he moves the Vindicator 12'' forward. Otherwise, it sits in 4+ cover and half of your shots bounce off.

Vindis are vehicles. 4+ cover from what? The rhinos? If whatever it is isn't 50% plus of his hull, no cover.

Since vindis have a 24" range, by all means sit back in "cover".

I will laugh, then cry as I kill it.

I know, but I'm very indulge to my opponents: ''Oh, I move this tank into this forest with two trees, with one tree on each side the tank should get a cover save, right?''

You give them the goalpost?

Shame on you.

I'm taking your mancard and punching a corner.

Its not much more than a goalpost, but they feel better before I go for their throat.

Gentlemen,

While I appreciate the spirit of the comments that were provided, and the back and forth is really quite entertaining, I think you missed my question. That is, which should I take the the LVGT, not please critique the armies.

I believe I did say my objectives for the event were more along the lines of helping me have the most fun at a really good event, not help me win the thing. All I want is an army with more capabilities than I have, which I admit are meager. Having fun means more than winning though. For instance, having to transport an Army to Las Vegas is not an easy thing to do. Especially for Tyranids.

So with that reminder, I would love any and all opinions. Also, if you're at the Las Vegas GT and would talk and critique my army, I'm happy to that as well. I've been to more than six so far, so I now recognize a fair number of folks.

Your question is unanswerable, we want you to have fun but is being on the back tables fun for you?

That's where those armies will take you.
