Apologies if this has been posted by anyone before, but just spotted this on FFG's news page.

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/midnight/index.html

The trailer looks pretty good (especially given the shoestring budget) and beggars one question. If FFG can make a film ON THEIR OWN! Why can't GW finally get its arse into gear, contact a film studio and give us the movie we all want???

P.S. If this happens, only Dan Abnett is allowed anywhere near a script! Any other Black Library authors linked with such a project will 'mysteriously disappear'

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Not to sell Dan Abnett short, but I think if GW did a movie they'd probably try to get someone with more renown and cinema experience.

I don't think he should do it either.

But given the standard of everyone else......

...I mean, can you imagine a Ben Counter-scripted 40k movie? *Shudder*

Ian Watson should do the script then. He did the then (and in my opinion still) great Inquisition Wars and is a script writer. *cough* A.I. *cough*

Dan "fething" Abnett is fragging overrated and you know it. Yes he can spin great tales on paper, but his comic work blows hard. Ten to one a comic of his will churned into a movie.

I'd fear the day they let Goto or Soulban write a movie script for 40k, it will either be full of eldar-fetish or be very much UNLIKE 40k at all.

C.S. Goto movie. With Eldar.

FTW.

The only thing worse would be Uwe Boll. Or not.
And I agree, Dan Abnett is over-rated. A lot (as is Bill King, but oh well).

I loathe to admit, but C.L. Werner might be a good choice for a fantasy movie, he writes some of the better not-so cliched fantasy novels out there, with exception of Palace of the Plague Lord. His witch hunter and Brunner books are some of the best.

if GW were to make a movie, do it right, out source it to pros, i would hate to see a gakky 40K movie, better to not have one, it would just make the hobby look worse.

i have always been of the opinion they should go animated if they were to make a movie, like the fantastic DoW trailers. unless a movie is of star wars quality, live action fantasy or sci fi just ends up looking stupid most of the time.

as far as novelists writing screen plays, that is a tough transition to make. a book can be as long as it needs to be, a script is about 120 pages, most of them blank space. it is two totally different types of writing, just as poetry and prose are different, better to let a screenwriter write it than have a novelist try and switch gears like that.

Don't say those words, Flachzang! Do you want it to end up like the Dungeons & Dragons movies? Like the Dungeon Siege movie? I'd first let Trey Parker and Matt Stone have at it.

Well, who would ever want anything like that to happen honestly.

But C.S. Goto? Please.... we can do better than that.

You guys are filling me with a sense of nausea... better question is who would do a good 40k movie?

I'd want Ridley Scott (for his realistic whiz bang boom) to direct a script written by Mark Ferguson, Hawk Ostby (for their dystompian work in Children of Men and their smarmy humor in Iron Man).

I know, lets ask Pixar if they want to do a 40k movie, they have all the required skills to make a good cgi movie. Granted, there is the whole jump from kids movies to gritty hard sci-fi but hey!

Nah, that was the D&D movie, you could almost see hitpoints ticking off their heads during the action scenes.

Meanwhile, a 40K movie would be a pretty hard sell as a mainstream product. I'd rather see a thirty of fourty million dollar production like a Sin City or 300, and aim it at an 18+ crowd. But I doubt GW would be at all interested in a movie like that, instead seeing a film as a means to target more 15 year olds. Ah well, just something else that'll I make happen when I rule the world.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I saw this movie last week at the riverview theater.

My impression is that it wasn't very good. it was better than the original D&D movie, but thats not saying much, of course.

Still it was a fun movie to watch.
