I know its short notice.. However, tomorrow I'm going to be playing a 1500 Spearhead Annihilation match and there's about a 80% chance its going to be against Tau. I plan on taking a Nidzilla last so I can avoid using as many kill points as possible on top of the fact that Nidzilla is hard to kill. So far my Army is looking like this:

HQ:
Dakka Flyrant +Str, 2 TL-Devourers, Warp Feild
Running Scything Tyrant +Str, Scything Talons, EC

Elite
3 Dakkafex with 2 TL-Devourers, +BS

Troops
2x Squads of 9-8 Genestealers with scuttlers
OR
2x squads of 18ish Hormagaunts

Heavy support:
3x Sniperfex Barbed Strangler Venomcannon BS +1 Wound

The things I cant Decide.

Should I add EC to the three Sniper Fex? Tau has a quite a bit of ap3 weapons and the 2+ save would save their asses.
What should my troop Choices be? Stealers that Run strait up Outflank or Hormagaunts that just Haul *$$ and get into combat ASAP
And...
Should the CC Tyrant be Winged or the Dakka Tyrant.

What do you guys think?

Tau have no AP3 weapons short of Vespid, it's the AP2 that'll kill you from the plasma rifles and AP1 from Fusion Blasters/Railguns. Take Bonded Exoskeleton instead of the 2+ save, it'll make it harder for him to wound you with the plasma rifles in the first place.

It depends, do you know if he's playing mech Tau or gunline Tau. I'd go with the stealers, but expect them to die quick deaths unless you can work miracles with cover/fleet dice.

CC Tyrant should be winged, otherwise, especially without Tyrant Guard, it's gonna be picked off by the rest of his army.

If he's a smart Tau player, he'd target your sniperfexes and CC tyrant first, at least that's what I'd do (mech tau player). Your priority are his rail-guns and any crisis suits that pack a plasma rifle. If he's playing gunline Tau, you've pretty much won from the start.

Alright so I changed it up a bit and I'll probably just run this list:

HQ:

Hive Tyrant - Enhanced Senses, Extended Carapace, Toxin Sacs, TL-Devourer(x2)
Hive Tyrant - Toxin Sacs, Winged, Scything Talon(x2), Warp Field

Elite:

Carnifex - Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks, TL-Devourer(x2)
Carnifex - Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks, TL-Devourer(x2)
Carnifex - Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks, TL-Devourer(x2)

Troops:

Genestealers - 9 Scuttlers
Genestealers - 9 Scuttlers

Heavy Support:

Carnifex - Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks, Reinforced Chitin, Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon
Carnifex - Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks, Reinforced Chitin, Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon
Carnifex - Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks, Reinforced Chitin, Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon

Total Cost: 1500

I tryed to get Bonded Exoskeleton but I would have had to take squads of 6 Genestealers. If theres anything anyone would suggest I would consider altering stuff if its a good idea. Otherwise Ill post a battle report on what happens either tomorrow night or monday.

Nidzilla is the hardest list for and all comers Tau army in my opinion. I think you would be hard pressed to take 8 monsterous creatures and not clean house.

It might be a bit late for you now, but I would consider swapping out a gun fex and two genestealers for (wait for it) three warp-blasting Zoanthropes.

More reliable anti-tank than your venom cannons, and can offer some nice AP3 template goodness for whatever squads he has lined up, saving your barbed stranglers for more tasty targets. And if he does start to target them, that's less shots aimed at your genestealers/carnifexes.

Still a Tau player at heart, so hope the greater good finds a way to crush you

Warp Blast works wonders in 5e on troops too now that the ToHit roll on the blast is a scatter roll instead.

Eh I've never played Tau and last week he took Sniper Drones and 2 Hammer Heads which I thought would eat away at my guys. But, I suppose the Nidzilla list is just evil.
