Hey, I haven't played a Warhammer game since Third edition and would like some constructive criticism from players about my nid army. I visited a local tourney a couple weekends ago and looks like im going to be playin against gaurd, some nids, some chaos and regular marines and theres one ork and one eldar guy.

I'm not confident I have a decent set up on my Warriors or if they are even worth the points to keep them in the army. Also I am going to be trying 2 variations of the Flyrant, one like it is and another with 2 twin linked devourers. any experience with either would be appreciated along with any criticism. thanks

At 2K points I think you need more TMCs.

For what you've spent on your warriors you could by two Elite slot carnifexes and still have 40 points to spend.

OR you could buy another Tyrant and some tyrant guard.

Scything talons is not the best thing you can buy for stealers. Feeder Tendrils is. Or perhaps flesh hooks. It's probably useful to have some units that can assault into cover. Another option is Carapace. I'm sure there is some math-hammer around about this.

If you want to make your Broordlord's retinue even more nasty, buy his stealers Acid Maw.

Only a short reply this time around...

I personally get much more value out of the Dakkaflyrant, the dual tl-devourer setup you have mentioned at the bottom.

For your Genestealer Retinue you may consider giving them each Acid Maw to work with the Broodlord's feeder tendrils. Rerolling both misses and wounds makes Genestealers great, and a Broodlord and company's job is to annihilate whatever it gets next to.

Lictors are fun and help reroll reserve rolls. Just be careful with them, T4 and 5+ save aren't exactly amazing. Also don't forget they have Hit and Run, can prove useful pretty often.

I've never had Warriors make their points back, nor have they ever done more damage than Elite carnifexes for the same points. At 274 points, that's two dakkafexes and then points left over.

Add Feeder Tendrils to every troop Genestealer. For only 1 more point per model, they become that much better.

Drop scything talons on your Genestealers, replace them with Feeder Tendrils and buy more bodies. Also, if you're going to bring scuttling Genestealers, I'd make all of them scuttling. Even if you don't outflank with them, that's another 6" move into cover your opponent doesn't get.

Gaunts don't need scuttling, ever.

I'd drop your Gaunt count to 11-12 in each unit and make a third unit with the leftover Gaunts. Three scoring units are better than two.

Sorry it's taken me like a month to respond. I'm going to take your advice... On most everything(scuttler drops, scything talon drop, acid maw add., feeder tendril add., 3 troops of gaunts). I haven't played a 40k game since 3rd edition so I appreciate all of the advice. I'm also thinking of running with maybe 3-4 warriors because I feel that my synapse is few and far between. with the drops and additions to troops points wise i could add 3 Zoans w/ synapse and warp balst and a dakka fex if I cut out the warriors also. Also does a zoanthrope count as an MC?

Ditto for me, I started out all keen with my assault force with warriors and stuff having not played since 2e....

If off of it, you should really focus on scuttlers. If on it, you should drop scuttlers and get more meat.

With only two-three squads of Gaunts (I'd probably only go two), you don't really need a ton of Synapse. Maybe one or two Zoeys, definitely not three, and how much shooting will they being doing? They only have an 18-24" range depending on shot choice, which isn't very much if you're hanging out with Gaunts in the back lines.

No, a Zoanthrope is not a Monstrous Creature. With so few units needing Synapse, you might also consider two Elite Carnifex and only one Synapse Zoanthrope for 271 points, and giving him Warp Blast if you feel like making the points up elsewhere.

Your Gaunts don't really need Synapse if they are just sitting on a back objective, at least not until near the end of the game when you can (hopefully, if it's still living) fly your Tyrant back to them alongside the Zoey.

It's starting off of it. I'm slowly buying models and taking my time painting them. 2 other friends of mine are starting at the same time as me so we keep throwing ideas at each other. As soon as we get some spare cash (I keep spending money on my car and working less since school is starting) we're thinking of going to buy a bucket of green and brown army men and have some fun. I will be testing out the advice ya'll have given me and trying some of the my "original" ideas against their Chaos and IG armies before buying all my models. I know LOS as well as measurements and stuff will be skewed but it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying models that I won't be using. (like my chaos buddy)
