What purpose do the Beasts of Nurgle serve in the army? They're infantry, so no faster than the Plaguebearers. Is it just the massive amount of attacks they can potentially put out? I suppose if Epidemius is beefed up then they could potentially be really nasty.

Also, no Wings on the Princes? I suppose it is a lot of points, but being able to move quickly and catch units if need be seems really useful.

I'd be tempted to combine at least one of those 7-PB squads into a single one of 14, to provide a nice home for Epidemius, where he can't get picked out through mass firepower.

Beasts don't die. They put out more attacks than plaguebearers, and have FNP/T5. Is that not reason enough?

The nurgle demon princes are slow but that's by design. You can run them ahead of the army, and they'll get shot to pieces. They are countercharge units, because without FNP they are vulnerable. You want them to hit hard and get the tally up at their high Init so the bearers and beasts go from suck to blow very quickly. lol

You stick Epidemius with the Beasts, but you can combine one unit to make him safer...but plaguebearers are very vulnerable to CC and he isn't safe in CC.

People don't assault beast units. It's a bad deal. lol

Nurgle isn't an army you beat. If built properly, it can beat SOME armies...but not all of them. Against some armies, it's just gotta take a beating and hang on long enough to get the tally up. Then...well, you become invulnerable and very dangerous in CC.

If the nurgle demons and kugath get into you, they can run that tally to max in no time flat. So can the beasts, by sheer numbers of attacks. Nurglings and plaguebearers, cannot.

Beasts at max tally...do this:

T5.
5+ invul.
2 wounds each.
D6 attacks.
Wound on 2+.
Power weapons.
FNP on 3+.

Really? Really.

For this army, how would you choose to deep strike it? Deploying demon armies is a weakness of mine.

seems like a pretty solid army, im about to start a khorne daemon army fairly soon ish lol
and who is it that doesent like beasts of nurgle? :O
they live up to thier names ...... Beasts!
nearly impossible to kill in large numbers, and painful to power armoured armies.

I'm sorry Stelek, I'm still not convinced that the beasts are worth their cost.

As I said in the other thread, once you have the tally up to 10, nurglings only have 1 less WS, and are 1/3 the cost.

Adam, one place that Beasts have an advantage over Nurglings is in mixed combats. Say you have a unit of Nurglings and a Prince in combat with a squad of Marines. The marines will direct all their attacks against the Nurglings and cause likely 4-5 wounds. The Prince will possibly kill two or three, the nurglings at best 1 or 2. That means there's a very good chance you lose combat, and all the models on your side are suddenly taking wounds. That's been the biggest weakness of Nurglings for me so far.

Nurglings make you lose close combats.

In a close combat only army.

Seems like a losing combination.

Give it a whirl.

When you run into a close combat army, and you get tabled immediately...don't say you weren't warned.

Orks, Black Templar, Blood Angels...they will all ring your bell.

I wasn't impressed with Beasts until I played against them. I still like Bloodcrushers and Fiends, but the Beasts did a lot better than I thought they would. Perfect fit in a Nurgle themed army.

I'd second Stelek about the Nurglings in a CC army. That is not their job. In a multi-unit assaut the smart opponent will send any attack he can at the Nurglings. They are much easier to wound which will lead him to winning the assault and you taking a bunch of No Retreat saves.

I've only found Nurglings good at two things: screening and boxing. Screening really isn't worth it because everyone gets a 5+ or better save so the bonus of a 4+ cover save is very limited. Since you can't consolidate into a new unit you could always use Nurglings to box in an incoming horde so that you get an extra turn of shooting at them. Never taken a loaded Tzeentch list since I prefer CC Demons myself so I've never done this.

There is a place beneath those ancient ruins in the moor…

Yes, nurglings aren't so hard to kill, but I was referring to nurglings in an Epidemius list with a 10+ tally.

Who wouldn't want 3 wounds and 3 power weapon attacks wounding on a 2+ for only 13 points???

adam, thats allwell and good, but they need to survive to get those attacks, thier ability to survive is poor, and they become an obvious target in multiple CC.
they are best used as suicide units for holding things like termys up a turn or 2 untill you can make a decent counter charge, thats worth the 13 points more than the attacks are.

Because you will never get there with Nurglings.

You need something besides two GUO and 3 DP to get those kills for you.

What happens when you face a mech horde and your nurglings are worthless?

I assure you, you WILL face a mech horde at the Ard Boyz. S3 = laugh.
