I've been out of the game for awhile, but fifth edition seems to have renewed 40K interest in the area, so I've begun converting my old Kroot mercenary army into a playable Ork army. I'm going maximum kommando units, just to keep the Kroot infiltrate theme going, so thought I would start making some burnas to add to those units. Here are the first two, made with whatever I had lying around, really.





They will be joining a unit I have already painted up to be, for lack of a better term, ninja-Kroot. This is what a standard kommando and a Nob with power klaw will look like, respectively.

I like the conversion work on the burnas, but I'm not sure about the feathers in the masks part.

Ork rules I think would be pretty reasonable for Kroot. I am kinda disappointed they don't have any 5th edition rules. They have a lot of official models, too many for a 'side' codex. Side-codexes should be for special reorgs of existing armies. Kroot core is way past a Tau reorg and should have supported rules for the figures that simply can't be used.

But anyways, Nice conversions! The burnaz look perfect.

What is your kroot army going to consist of? What models do you already have?

I really like the Burna Conversions - they look sufficiently burna-y while continuing to look sufficiently Kroot-y. I love the big Ushabti weapon on the Kroot "Nob" and I guess it works fairly well as a counts as "Power Klaw" (granted an Orky Power Klaw would look really awkward on a Kroot, generally, so what can you do?). I can't fault your execution on the modeling - looks great!

Your "nob" makes me want to do a unit of Ninja Scouts for my Space Marines now.

The army is really going to be whatever I can use for counts-as most reasonably, so it won't be a very competitive Ork army. I bought a lot of Forgeworld Kroot models so will be trying to use all of them as I spent a lot of time converting and painting them. This is what my list will probably look like:

Kroot Master Shapers = Weirdboy Warpheads (eventually I will make new shamanistic models for these)
Standard Kroot = Ork Shootas
Ninja Kroot + Kroot Hounds = Ork Kommandos
Knarloc Riders = Ork Warbikers
Great Knarlocs = Deff Dreads

You know Oaka. You have just gone and literaly riped this idea right from my head! This was going to be my next Kroot army project right after i finish my Tau empire codex Merc list

One Idea i had for the great Knarloc would be to use it as a Battle wagon with a Deff Roller. Add a Ork Truck trailer on top and make it look like a squigoth Was something i was planing to do for the Tau version list for a Devil fish counts as, but it would work better in the Ork style list me thinks.
