I got challenged by someone at the FLG to make a CSM list with NO god-marks, so only Chaos Glory Icons can be used. This means, sadly, no Lash, no BoC, no toughness 6 DPs, no summoned daemons etc. Here goes. I hate myself...
HQ
Daemon Prince, with Wings and Warptime. - 155 pts.

Elites
5 Terminators, with IoCG, four combi-plasmas, one powerfist, and one Reaper AC. - 215 pts.

Troops
10 Chaos Marines, with IoCG, two plasma guns, and champ with PF. - 230 pts.

Fast attack
10 Raptors, with two meltaguns, IoCG, and champ with LCs. - 275 pts.

Heavy Support
2 Obliterators - 150 pts.
2 Obliterators - 150 pts.

I know, the guys who asked for the list are homos. The idea is that the Raptors move forwards with the DPs and tie-up troops and melt vehicles till the CSM and Termies arrive... lame eh

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I like it. One of the very few vanilla CSM lists I've seen that is any good. A lot of IoCG though. A lot... Does everyone need to be rerolling that LD test? Maybe they do. You could drop a raptor squad to up the Oblits to 3x3. I think it would make the list a lot more dangerous at range but less mobile. To be honest though I don't think it needs changing, just some IRL testing to see if it really works.

This is not any good.
If you want to run a CSM troops army, you bring Fabius Bile.
This is a bad mix of slow, foot, fast, big, and fire support.
Chaos does not have points to feth around and run 5-in-1 lists, ok?

Like I said it's utterly hopeless. Even I feel the need to include a marked unit or two, and I used to love running a big undivided Alpha Legion list. I don't like Bile. He doesn't even get a power weapon and he'll die to powerfists or guardsmen beating on him.

Since your opponents are complaining about using marked units and you've come up with this list, it indicates they probably aren't using maximized, no fat-tourney prepped armies. Since you most likely aren't facing cut-throat armies, the one you posted will probably work out ok.
However, at this point level, it just seems like your Demon Princes could get dropped fairly quickly. Sorcerers with Jump Packs may offer more protection and still give you a Force Weapon with a lot of attacks.
Try it out. See how it works.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

so instead of firing at your hard to kill demon princes, you opponent will kill your oblits and your raptors and then laugh as your sorcerer has all the combat ability of a SM captain? sorcerers arent as good as demon princes. do you kill as much, they are less versitile, they mean the rest of your army will die faster and they cost the same points.
going the alpha legion way is better for non-god chaos. 3 10 man squads of chosen with meltas/flamers in outflanking rhinos. they cost an arm and a leg, but they will turn up and kill something before they get shot to peices in return. id probably also drop a CSM squad for some more oblits. appart from the lower scoring capacity they are better. its not like those CSM are going to survive long enough to get to an objective anyway. at least oblits can DS next to one if you roll dawn of war or something.

Polonius wrote:Well, seeing as I literally will die if I ever lose a game of 40k, I find your approach almost heretical. If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

I'd change those plasma guns to melta guns, myself, and probably drop some Terminators to take more CSM. Perhaps a single unit of terminators with a LR to go with all those Rhinos, but maybe not. Alternately, units of Chosen or Havocs with Rhinos to get lots of special weapons and possibly Outflank moves. And with enough Rhinos, the Raptors can still hide behind them, if you clip off those flying bits.
