Could use a smaller (read smallER, not SMALL) squad on foot to hold objectives, not in a trukk?
Basically a "Hay yoos boyz, yoo draw short straw, yoo no fight humies. Yoo hold bilding from humies, or I dakka yoo me self"
PS: I don't have the ork codex so I don't know what options you have...just my first thought.

Grots and Big guns are great for objectives.
Troops: Gretchin (11#, 40 Pts)
10 Gretchin @ 40 Pts
Grot Blasta; It's a Grot's Life
1 Runtherd @ [10] Pts
Grabba Stikk (x1); Slugga; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Squig Hound
Heavy Support: Lobba Battery (5#, 41 Pts)
1 Lobba Battery @ 41 Pts
Lobba (x1); Additional Gun Krew
2 Gretchin @ [6] Pts
2 Gretchin @ [0] Pts
1 Runtherd @ [10] Pts
Grabba Stikk (x1); Slugga; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Squig Hound
Stick them in deep cover behind a rock. Have the grots go to ground (3+ cover save if in cover) and the big gunz lob crap from a corner all game. You then force your opponents to send at least 1 of their units after the grots instead of focusing everything on your main force.
To fit a Speed-freek's theme, you could model the grots on Mini-bikes and the Big gun as a mini tank.

Can't you just let one of your truck boys hang back??
I have let one of my truck boys hang back, or left them basically without a truck holding the objective.

As far as I am concerned, the game has moved away from "pure" armies. (ie Speed freaks that must all be mounted, Deathwing with only terms and LR's, Grey knights with no allies, Legion armies etc.) If you are too concerned with "purity" you will be at a disadvantage.

As a captain in "Saving Private Ryan" says: This is a waste of primary military resourses".

fluff wise, I don't really have a problem with big gunz batteries in a speed freak list. THe trukks all have trailer hooks, and the guns have eyelets, so the boyz in trukks would just toss the grots and guns off the back when it looked like there was going to be some action.
But yes a squad of grots in the back or else your holding back a squad of boyz to keep your objective.

Buy these:

Get a plastic Grots from fantasy or Pick metal ones:

Make all your grots have little buggies/bikes! Now they are themed for speed freeks but function as basic grot footsloggers. (litte bikes don't go as fast!)
There is 'theme' by army comp and then there is 'theme' by painting and converting. I doubt we will see offical speed freek rules again because they are simply uneccessary. Taking wazzdakka basically makes your force a valid speed freeks army.

Or how about converting a 40k pump wagon? That would rule.

One thing that I have been doing for missions with objectives is that I put all the objectives on one side of the board. This means all of my boys just have to go to one side of the board and I don't need to keep every one on one side of the board.

why don't you take a decent size squad of flash gitz (aka. rich nobs) then turn 1 have them boot someone outta "my trukk"....

or if you use a shock attack gun try this:
change one mob to 11 total including the nob
put your shock attack gun in that squad.
start the trukk with everyone mounted.
if you need or want to, disembark just the trukk boyz. leave the mek in the trukk
you have a shield that has to be destroyed before the mek can be hurt at all.
and if you don't have a shot, you have an 18" move to reposition for a better one
meanwhile, if it is one objective in each deployment zone.. then you needed the boyz there anyway. they might as well be safe in the trukk with the mek
also.. as un-orky as it may be.. I find myself leaning more towards shootas in a trukk. often you have to camp up on an objective and wait for them. you might as well take the extra shots!

I have to agree with pure armies being on the way out. I've run speed freaks for years and always been bike heavy but i've recently moved away from my pure bike force. I've got a unit of grots that hang on the trucks and "man" the heavy weapons dragged behind. that took care of one objective but i also took a squad of 12 boyz who were booted out of their trukk when da boss strapped a big gun to it So they just mope at the back of the field and kick rocks while their trukk bombs people with shells. Though i have to say i took a comp hit for taking Wazdakka to keep my bikes as troops. I hope as more codex's come out people stop viewing special characters in such a negative light and just realize they are being used to individualize the list.
