ive allways loved pirates (like anyone that doesent grow up) and the new vampire counts are ace, but since i saw a undead pirate list a while back in WD ive decided to think about starting a pirate themed vampire counts army, substituting units for more pirate like ones, for example, instead of a spirit host i would have something like "merblades" a ghost like mermade with a cutless and so on, other units like black knights could be a zombie pirate riding an undead shark (sounds weird, but could be fun) for things like the vargulf you could have a dead water dragon (dragon with no legs, uses a snake like body and fins to move through water) but, im sure i will get fluff nutters complaining about killing the whole feel of a VC army, but i thought it could be fun to build, and the possibilities are endless.
let me know any thoughts, suggestions and ideas please.
im not sure if this is the right thread to post this in, but i guess it will do for now.

Actually, I think that sounds pretty awesome. Just remember: when/if you add zombies, you have to have them covered with star fish, barnacles and what not and have them emerging from the water. Give them a good Pirates of the Carribean feel. Same goes with your skeletons!

I thought about doing an Undead Pirates army for awhile since I saw Pirates of the Carribean.

Undead Pirates = Ghouls or Skeletons. (There are some undead pirate GW figures now. otherwise have to do conversions which is a big pain in the neck.

Undead Manta Riders = Black Knights (forget where I found them but there were manta rays in 28mm, then just put skeletal black knights on them.

Undead Shark Riders = Blood Knights. Have to find the site again was some sharks in 25mm I think put some undead warriors on top of them.

Merfolk Tomb guardians = Tomb Guard - Undead merfolk with wicked looking tridents. Some other company made these not sure if they would be tourney legal because of that maybe find a better idea.

Dire Sharks = Dire Wolves - use same sharks as above.

Undead Sea Serpent = Vargulf - need to find a suitable model to convert.

Floating Corpse Long Boat = Corpse Cart - custom make a long boat out of wood or if I'm feeling lazy get a boat model and fill it with undead body bits.

For a Vampire Lord there is the Mordheim Pirate looking Female Vampire forget the name.

Still a work in progress. Started buying some stuff haven't gotten all that far on actually building stuff or painting it because of other projects and summer time activiites.

thanks for the ideas kirika, just getting things drawn up, not having skellys.

grave guard - skelly parts mixed in with the new corsairs sprues.

black coach - ghost gallion (flying pirate ship)

and yea, i was also influenced by pirates or the carribean

DARN DARN DARN!

I have been working on this army already! I have purchased most of th parts and was planning on assembling it and painting it while I played another version of the same army. I was using the VC models for the most part and making some modifications.

1) Lead by Vladmina ( Give a Vampire Lord as many of the Vlad items as possbile)
2) 2 other Female Vampires (so 3 lady Vampires as 3 queens of Pirates). Then add the different pirate stuff to the different units. Hats, cutlasses, eye patches, skull and cross bones, and so forth.
3) There are some direct services models that are Pirate looking and could be used for the Zombie unit command. Which I have purchased already.

Right now I am working on assembly as I am doing something special for the overall effect And I have customized a vargulf already.

When I am done the army I will post a picture or 20. Hope you do the same. Good luck!

Funny thing is that I was not influence by Pirate of the Carribean. I just like Pirates. But I have seen the movies. And visited the ride (a few times).

As for the Manta Riders you could use Daemon Screamers of Tzeentch for the Manta Rays.

thanks for the ideas on the screamers, just need to trim off the spikes and a little GS and they should be fine.

some of my friends did a project liked this and was going to do his zombies like your thinking but it would take too long so they took the idea of them getting raised from the dead with them walking out of the water which was easier and quicker but still really cool!

skeletons are also basic pirates with just bandana's and cutlasses and pistols, ghouls were based on normal humans who were really drunk and fought with broken bottles!

hope that helps with making it easier and happy converting
